(CNSNews.com) - "It's time for me to go do something else," retiring Rep. Tom DeLay said Tuesday morning. The Texas Republican gave his first national television interview to Fox News, after announcing on Monday that he would leave Congress by mid-June.

"My liberal Democratic opponent has been raising money all over the nation," with help from liberal Democrats such as Barbra Streisand, George Soros, and Nancy Pelosi, DeLay said.

"His (Lampson's) money will dry up. This is probably the worst day of his campaign because he knows that any Republican that replaces me on the ballot will win this seat."

DeLay said the Democrat Party has no agenda, no solutions -- "all they've got is the strategy of personal destruction and character assassination; and it hasn't worked in the past, it's not going to work in the future. They are a permanent minority party."
