1. Perhaps he's an actual investigative reporter, like we used to have, who
Edited on Sat Apr-08-06 01:14 PM by Mayberry Machiavelli
actually sniffs around and finds various sources, including people within Bushco, the Pentagon, etc. who perhaps are disgruntled or not entirely on board with all their doings.

3. He has "sources" and does what reporters have
forgotten how to do, INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING... it takes YEARS to develop sources. And you will notice he never gives the actual names, or the gravy train would come to a full stop

Also, in The Price of Power his White House info on Nixon is sometimes hysterically funny, as when Nixon outted a secret (plane surveillance capability, if I remember right) during a dustup with the North Koreans and the intell guys were flabbergasted at who to hold 'accountable'.

BTW, he is one of those apparently Under Surveillance along with Christiane Amanpour et al by the NSA. Lovely. Discourages whistleblowers.

12. Yep. He's earned the respect of honest insiders of all ideological stripe
Sy Hersh is, if nothing else, entirely focused on dragging information into the sunlight of public scrutiny. He never sold out like Bob Woodward, who regarded investigative journalism as a stepping stone to personal wealth. Hersh views his postion as an investigative journalist as the goal, not some cachet to sell out.

5. Bingo!
How does Hersch get these secret war plans? Or maybe they're not intended to be so "secret" at all. Perhaps they're leaked to send a warning. I just don't see why we'd be giving any advance warning of such a massive, lunatic attack unless we were trying to scare the "enemy."

7. Read the papers of the 1930s
German papers, if you can read them... they did the same thing... but you are right WW II never hapepend, and it was a figment of our collective imagination.

we have a bunch of people in power with very similar psychosis. They are NOT normal... and if you think they have any limits imposed by normal behavior or morality you will be sorely disappointed.

By the way up to a year ago I did not beleive they were capable of doing what they do... the last remnants of that illusion died with Katrina... and the 10,000 dead (Yes I am adding the missing to the official dead count before you say it... seen this done before)

10. I'll tell you why.
Sure it's possible that info was leaked to Hersh on purpose, but I believe he'd be able to discern info leaked for the purpose of disseminating it to the public, a la Judy Miller, and real inside info. Hersh has been cultivating sources at the Pentagon for over 40 years. He's well liked and trusted by many career military officers. There are always insiders who harbor grave doubts about civilians in the WH and DoD. That's why many of them leak.

domestic spying for political purposes (read 'catapulting Bush propaganda') in order to stifle dissent in what once was a free country.

Probably us here at DU, too, are being watched and surveilled. Just pointing out the obvious.

14. It's probably not the White House
Hersh has cultivated sources in the Pentagon for decades, and it's a point of honor with him to be totally straight in his dealings with them. He's earned their respect and trust.
