1. And I long for...
...the Clinton era oil policy, ya know, when we had peace AND $1 a gallon gas. Gee, ya think there's a connection?

6. ??
Cheap oil = more usage. More usage = more demand. More demand = higher prices.

Supply drops = higher cost because it's in higher demand.

And there was no peace. The ME was still warring itself. China was still not our friends despite the increase of offshoring... (sorry Libertarians, it is not a good thing to offshore when you hand everything over to a country that may not like you...) We're not at a crossroads yet, but we're heading there at 75mph in a 35mph zone...

Saddam was his usual brash idiot self. Never mind the 1996 blood feud incident where Saddam wanted to get an assassin to kill Poppy, which just shows how much a maniac, devoid of decency or civilized leader, Saddam was. Clinton was gung-ho on going after him in 1998, with Poppy telling the world why we shouldn't (funny how times change... especially, in retrospect, Poppy made sense back then...)

$1/gal was by 1992. And our foreign dependence on the stuff was high. What did Clinton do? Retract the 55mph federal speed limit... ~15% less gas is used when driving at 55mph compared to 65mph; any given car's peak energy/speed ratio is at 35mph (the last I read, during the mid-90s)

10. What drivel
It only confirms my suspicions that there are some people, some people, on the Left who are secretly enjoying the out of control gas prices.

3. Yep, the transition to spring blends in northern states has barely
begun. Imagine where we are going to be by May Day.

4. It's good to be an oil baron capitalist today, isn't it?
Edited on Sun Apr-09-06 03:58 PM by Selatius
My God, think of the windfall profits they will get at the end of the day. It'll be in the billions. That's billions that won't go to feed hungry people, help the sick and elderly, educate the people, and protect the environment. It will go into their coffers instead.

7. It's just business, it's nothing personal.

:sarcasm:

Big biz. It's never personal. And that's part of the problem.

8. I know, I've been watching it this past week...
Up about $0.25 over the week. Ugh. I have a spreadsheet set up for when it makes sense to trade our gas-guzzling but low-payment van in for a higher-payment, higher-gas mileage station wagon. We're damn close, and it's not even summer yet. Yikes.

9. "I'm gonna punch you in the nose." ....

"Since you didn't say or do anything about it, I'm gonna do it again."

"Since you didn't say or do anything about it that last two times, here's another punch."

"Since you took it AGAIN, I'm ginna kick you in the private parts this time."

Etc.

That basically seems to be what's happening in a nutshell.
