1. Amex
Is the only thing here I really use to any real consistancy. I might have to write them a little letter voicing my opinion of their choice of advertisers.

12. They've already been f'ing people over with their credit cards lately...

and playing games with interest rates, credit limits, and late fees...

The only reason I use them any more is to get Costco stuff (which I wrote a letter to folks in congress to have AMEX have to renegotiate their contracts with Costco and other companies if they want any more bailout money! You should too!)

3. Boycotts DO NOT work. The only viable target is the individual talking head who spews
the lies on air.

Make them fear to spread their bullshit and it might slow down a bit.

Make them suffer consequences for participating in the propaganda.

Anything else is just pissing into the wind.

5. I am not convinced that the reason was purely what Oliely was doing. And his show is
still on the air, still spreading the lies.

Now, if he was "unable" to go on the air, his show would die.

7. Do you think that would be more effective?
I don't really care what tactic we use, but I do not feel that we can continue to do nothing while they continue to spout off their bullshit in an effort to turn the country against organized labor.

The bs that's been going around about labor is disgusting.

11. All the corporate media is, to some degree, yelling "Fire" in the crowded theater of our nation.
Fucks is just the worst.

As to tactics - my answer is BAMN (by any means necessary)!

9. Trouble is, almost all of them advertise everywhere, so you're not
focusing on the actual target. I don't see how such a boycott would pressure them in any way.

10. Yeah I see your point...
..and like I said earlier, if people here feel like we would get better results by contacting the producers or hosts of these programs directly then that should be our plan of action. I just feel like we need to do something though, ya know?

13. The only one I use is a Toyota
and I'm not selling it. I like Toyotas, so I will probably buy another one.

The rest of the advertisers I don't use, so I guess you could say it's a boycott by lack of interest.

14. Boycotts at this level don't work - waste of time
Seriously. The number of boycotts of national companies that have worked, you can count on one hand. And, almost always, they have had some powerful people behind them.

For example, the gay community successfully boycotted Coors, but only because the unions stepped in and owners of gay bars refused to carry Coors at all. Had they carried it, a lot of gay people would have bought it and the boycott would have gone nowhere.

Here's how to affect a network -- but you still need a lot of people in all markets to go along.

Pick a local advertiser who advertises during a certain Fox show -- just one -- not a whole slew of them. Get people to start calling the advertiser and telling him they won't do business with him because of a certain Fox show or commentator, whatever.

Once Honest Freddie the car dealer gets 15 or 20 calls in one day, he will be on the phone to the station manager, screaming and yelling. Once you get Freddie all riled up, you pick another local person. Same deal. Now, he's screaming and yelling at the station manager. A couple of those calls and the station manager will be screaming and yelling at Fox. If you get enough station managers screaming and yelling at Fox, things will start to change.

Fox is not about ideology. It's about money. If Rupert Murdoch could make more money being liberal, Roger Ailes would be out on his fascist traitor ass before the sun rose tomorrow.

However, trying to boycott 20 national corporations with a handful of people is just wasting time and effort -- not to mention your breath. I look at that list above, and like many people here, there are none of them I patronize anyway.

Always look for the weakest link in the chain -- it's the local advertiser. They respond to a lot less pressure and they scream much much louder.
