Union, DoorSystems reach new tentative agreement

By Jake Miller • Marshfield News-Herald • April 21, 2009

Local union leaders and Marshfield DoorSystems came to terms Sunday on a new tentative labor agreement that includes additional limitations on mandatory overtime -- four days after union employees voted against another agreement.

Dan O'Donnell, Midwest manager for the Carpenters Industrial Council, said pressure from members of the Union Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 1733, led the company to continue talks Sunday, while employees picketed a DoorSystems' job fair aimed at finding potential replacement workers.

"Because of direct action of members pressuring the company, that pushed the company back to bargaining table," O'Donnell said.

Union members will vote Wednesday on the tentative agreement.

"It's the members' decision," O'Donnell said. "It's democracy."

A company spokesperson confirmed the agreement Monday, and said DoorSystems, a major producer of commercial doors, will not comment until after the vote.
