In an effort to avert a strike, Boeing workers are meeting with federal mediators this week. Jesse Russell has more.

Boeing workers who had previously threatened to strike have made plans to meet on Friday. The workers rejected Boeing’s most recent contract offer on Sunday and had planned to deliver a letter to the company on Wednesday announcing they could strike within the week. Prior to delivering the letter the federal mediators requested a meeting on Friday. The rejected contract would see increased health-care costs to workers. Additionally it would require workers hired after January of 2012 to accept a 401k plan instead of the defined benefit plan be provided to current employees. The request for mediation comes a week after a month long strike in Long Beach, California stopped production lines at a cargo jet plant.
