I found a baby picture of my mom from 1932 and just in time
to restore it before it fades away altogether. It's the only one she's ever seen and we have no idea where it came from!

1. You are lucky.
There are NO pictures of either of my parents as children. I have one of my Dad when he was around 18 and one of my Mom from when she was about 25. I always wondered how they looked as kids but in those days people didn't take a lot of pictures.

2. I know, they really didn't! And the funny thing is, it just
appeared in my desk one day -- I have no idea where it came from.

(Cue the Twilight Zone music. :) )

3. Photos were really expensive back then, which is why
families didn't take that many over the years.

4. Mom's family had to move to a different country three times, too.
I think in her case, that's what happened. They fled to Mexico when she was six or so, went back to El Salvador when there was a regime change and Papi went back into government, then in the 1950s, they all came here. That's a lot of schlepping around! I'm surprised my grandmother was able to hang on to as many pix as she did.

5. There are more pictures of my mom's younger
siblings from when they were in high school. I noticed that these pictures were from a photographer and very posed. I guess that was the style back then. Usually there is a pillar in the picture they are standing near which says "te amo" or "recuerdos."

6. I realize that.
I just wish there were some of my parents as children.

7. Me too. The earliest picture of my mom was her First Communion.
My father had no pictures at all of himself. The earliest picture of him I have was in his doughboy uniform in WWI.

9. Look at that! That's how "ladies" were taught to sit.
Beautiful. :)

10. Your grandfather looks like he might have been a farmer -- like mine,
his face had seen the sun! My grandfather's forehead, above a hat brim, was always light. All of his friends looked the same when they removed their hats. Wonderful photo!
