SNL seem to hit all the points most in the media are afraid to touch.

Somehow I doubt she'll be so eager to quote this episode.

This is how many of your cohorts get to the magical 1000 posts. Never edit, just do another reply. Make them short, sweet and excessive.

Edited to add: and as well, when you get to 700 posts, go into the lounge and make a posting that says "I have 700 posts, ask me anything!". That alone brought many of us over the top.

97. Bullshit
You've convieniently forgotten the skit that portrayed Obama as an unqualified moron or the one that was flattering enough that Hillary herself appeared in it. They take potshots at both candidates, they're satirists, it's their job. You don't like this sketch, fair enough, humour is personal taste but let's not pretend that SNL have it in for Hillary.

it doesn't look like anyone is willing to let her think that she is really relevant anymore (as a candidate).

SNL owns the copyright - so it would be the one with the right to have it taken down if they care. Clinton doesn't have any right to have it taken down.

5. This certainly goes to show that the media is a double edged sword...
cuts both ways. She's right about one thing though, Sen. Obama is much too ethical to use this to his advantage, unlike her. If I know his style, and I think I do, if he's asked to comment on this, he'll answer just as he did about the Bosnia lie. He may be too much of a gentleman, if that's possible.

24. I've tried to watch it
But it seems like whenever I turn it on, I have to keep reminding myself, "They just did a joke. You are supposed to laugh at this point."

Talk about forced, uncomfortable laughter, that Clinton bit was nothing but.

I know it must be challenging to come up with good material each week, but The Daily Show does it 5 times a week (for a 30-minute show). I'd say Lorne Michaels just doesn't have much of a sense of humor, which is ironic, considering that this is supposed to be a comedy program -- or maybe it isn't.

25. They used Hillary's own words....
...and showed the absurdity of her statements and her current campaign.

It would be one thing if she was continuing the race without making racist,
divisive statements. She's not. Some claim she just wants to go out on
a high note. She's proving that this is not true, as she continues to
tear her way through this country, making incendiary comments and continuing
with her vitriol.

This skit nails it. Anyone who doesn't like it, doesn't like Hillary's own
words.

It's tough to see your candidate turn into a living absurdity--but Hillary's
done it to herself. With her own words.

31. Would you like to quote those words, all of them?.
Edited on Sun May-11-08 10:46 AM by Ronnie
Remember when by using half truths and partial statements "they" turned Gore into a serial liar and exaggerator? Remember when "they" turned Kerry into a war criminal? And Max Cleland into a traitor? Remember those things? Now "they" have turned the Clintons into racists. If "you" are a real Democrat, you know none of those things are true, but you're willing to "borrow" the racist charges to bolster your own candidate. Apparently, Senator Obama can't be good unless Senator Clinton is bad.
I wonder what admirable attribute of Sen. Obama's is going to be turned inside out and used against him. It should be interesting.

81. Most Hillary supporters aren't racist...
Of course Hillary's real supporters aren't racists. But what the Clinton campaign has been doing as their last ditch strategy is to play into the racial resentments and fears of the average 'low information' voters. They know exactly what they are doing. Hillary herself detailed the strategy in the USA Today 'hardworking white people' interview.

The trouble with the strategy is that it does have some power. Obama needs to be able to show potential voters he's extraordinary and assuage racial fears. But the Clintons won't let him. Hillary has shown us she will do anything to win, sink to any level. I'm not comfortable with THAT.

Secondly, I don't need help.

I am removed enough to see the irony. Hillary haters see ammunition everywhere they look but do not see when they themselves are being mocked. Certainly Clinton was being caricatured as well - that is the nature of parody. However, the really funny part to me is how the Hillary Hate Club sees this as a hit piece and completely misses the real parody.

36. It's nice to see SNL's political satire have a little edge again.
Too often I find that they tend to handle their targets with kid gloves, the kind of satire that the person being satired could enjoy. That's all well and good sometimes, but sometimes, you need to not be so polite. That's why The Onion and Whitehouse.org have been so great - they're downright vicious where too many others are just cute.

I mean, I understand you want to sell advertising with your content, but could you at least make your embedded player work?

You'd think this is a spoof but there's real truth in there that so much of the MSM doesn't even talk about. We'll see if she tries to use SNL again as a way to play "victim".

47. Hillary - "Republican in Democrat Dress"
I started out as a Clinton supporter and have switched to Obama, as I have been utterly repulsed by the Clintons.

For instance, when Hillary makes a point of doing well among white middle-class females, is she suggesting that white middle-class females have interests that are different from everyone else - gas prices, healthcare, jobs, security? Do white women have needs that are different from every other American? The needs of this nation are so beyond race and gender. The same applies to her boasting about doing well among Catholic voters, with a note that Barack is doing very well among Jewish voters, the olive tree into which the wild olive branches (Christians) are grafted (Romans 11:17-24).

Concerning Hillary's comment that she would not have sat in Pastor Wright's church for all those years, consider the following: I am an AA female who has attended a predominantly white church with an all-white pastoral staff for the past 7 years in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During this time, I have heard over and over again the praises of GWB and other right-wing politicians and the bashing of leaders, political and otherwise (including Bill and Hillary), whom I love and support. While it has occurred to me to walk out in protest to some of these comments, I have chosen not to do so out of respect for God, the Church at large, the local church community, and the pastor of my congregation, whom I regard as a wonderful teacher of the biblical text, full of wisdom in many areas, and whom I believe loves God sincerely but is merely deceived when it comes to politics. Besides, if I walked out of every church where I heard something that I disagree with, I could never be planted, and would never, therefore, grow.

Because I still maintain a relationship with the AA church, through financial support and community service, I better understand another important position that likely influenced Barack’s decision in remaining planted—the AA religious experience, something Hillary should become familiar with, especially if she plans to remain in politics. AAs living in this country can ill afford to neglect and totally distance ourselves from the AA church that has boldly championed our causes since before Reconstruction. And the AA church is more than a pastor; it is the center of the community, especially after AA schools were dismantled and assimilated in the 1960’s and 70's.

A final note is that had she been planted in a church like Barack's for 20 years, maybe Hillary would have been better prepared (in character) for such a time as this. Her tactics and behavior have been shameful, and she should be reminded that it was the AA vote that helped to put her and her husband in the White House for two terms. I am just utterly disappointed in the Clintons after having defended them so vehemently over the past several years.

I always thought Hillary should have ran in 2000 or 2004; she probably would have won then. She’s been so busy cozying up to the Republicans in the Senate that she didn’t notice that she was losing the trust of the Democratic Party, most of whom now view her as merely a “Republican in Democrat Dress.”

BLESSINGS TO OBAMA AND MICHELLE, ALL THE WAY TO THE WHITE HOUSE AND THROUGH TWO TERMS! OR MAYBE EVEN MORE!

50. Tina Fey left SNL to do 30 Rock
She was just back as a guest star for that one week. Somehow, I doubt that sketch would have been approved for broadcast had she still been script editor.

I think it's spot on. It almost hurts too much to laugh. I'm a disillusioned old feminist. I thought we would do better than that, that women would use their power in a better way; instead we get to see Hillary strapping on her dildo and getting down. If you were a real satire fan you would know that Stewart is on 4 nights not 5...so it may e that you don't care for the genre.

That was barely even parody. That was Amy Poehler straight up calling Clinton out. Pretty interesting considering she and Tina Fey made such waves when they came out and basically endorsed her a couple of months back on the show. Now I don't know about Tina but Amy has OBVIOUSLY changed her mind in the wake of Clintonian tactics. She called a couple hard, pipe hitting cats and went to work on Hillary with a pair of pliers and a blow torch. As far as comedy goes that was straight up medieval.

It may sound silly to say so as if they decide elections or something (cuz they obviously don't), but SNL parodies have had a long tradition of at least nudging public opinions for years and years. If she's lost the girls of SNL she's done.

66. to the Hillary-haters...
I'm an independent turned democrat in '04. I never loved the Clintons (Bill came across to me as a used car salesman back in '92) and I never hated them.

But I am, and will always be, grateful for what they accomplished during Bill's presidency. Always remember: peace and prosperity for 8 years. For all their flaws and mistakes, I know I was lifted out of poverty into the middle class during their years. And so were many people around me.

Unfortunately, most of my friends and I have fallen or are fighting to keep from being kicked through, the "trapdoor economy" that W stuck us with. If Kerry had been less a "gentleman" and more a street fighter, then maybe W's nightmare reign would have lasted only 4 years. Iraq would be a bad memory with a huge bill, but only half the size of the current bill.

The Clinton tactics may seem ugly to you, but sadly for all of us, that is what it took to break the republican stranglehold and failed policies. And Hillary's campaign has been nothing, NOTHING, compared to the muck that the republicans plan to throw at Obama. Already McCain is trying to make hay out of Hamas.

I truly hope that the country as a whole is fed up with the personal-attack, half-truth, all lies politics.

But if you are, and if you *truly* support Obama, then I suggest you try to emulate his message. If you hate Hillary so much, stop sinking into the muck you claim she is mired in. If the time for character-assassination politics is over -- prove it by living it.

The best way to unite against McCain is to stop attacking your fellow democrats -- especially Hillary and her supporters. The process is over, Obama won, you don't need to pound Hillary into a pulp to prove anything. In doing so, you sink to the level of Rovian take-no-prisoners style and will drive away many independents, like me.

Instead, prove yourselves worthy of victory by being gracious winners. To do less is to sink to the level of the Bushies.

67. It isn't over though, is it?
The latest "Hard Working Blue Collar Uneducated White Voter" makes it apparent that more of the same divisive, hurtful and harmful rhetoric is coming until she stops. Her choice of words, and the anger they provoke, has nothing to do with Senator Obama.

72. So much for the Clinton Legacy
OUCH!!! that was harsh... We all could have done without that.... But just as the sicking distortion of Obama's "Bitter" comment, this too is a foul... At least me as an Obama supporter will admit it. I don't see Obama jumping all over Hillary's comments. Here we go with another week of Pundits going for Hillary's throat.

We need to stay above the attempts to divide us. We need to win at every level of government in November.

71. she has to stop
Edited on Sun May-11-08 07:20 PM by katerinasmommy
I don't think it's good to have Clinton destroyed. but she's trying to destroy the nominee of this party. This smarmy and slimy pretense of talking about "working class whites" when she really means racists is going to disillusion a lot of idealistic people out there. She has no one to blame but her own arrogance for losing this nomination. She thought she was going to be annointed. She didn't have to really work to get it, and to be fair the media encouraged her in that. They declared her the front runner before she even announced she was running.

Now she's just a sad spectacle that makes most people uncomfortable. Unfortunately She seems determined to take the party down with her. It's either that or she's delusional. Take your pick. I just know it has to stop.
