A very sweet and funny ad. It would be nice to see a few like it here.

1. Good add, my niece babysits for a gay couple who have adopted
two children. She thinks they are good parents.

2. I don't like it.
It seems to imply that that the gay couple was hoping-- or even trying-- to "make" their son gay.

Granted, that is not the intent of the ad, but I'm afraid that is a message that some homophobes may take away from it.

Bad ad!

Bad!

3. I don't either. The message is of course correct but it wasn't done well.
Maybe it was the best they could do in 30 seconds but in that case they should have gotten somebody else to do it.

4. I agree. Third vote for doesn't work.
You don't reinforce stereotypical messaging.

Ever.

And this ad does that. I understand the good intentions, but the ad fails.

6. The ad works for you and for me. However, to those on the other side...
Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 07:59 PM by IanDB1
... it gives the impression that the gay couple have failed in their attempt to turn their adopted son gay, they are disappointed, and the son knows it.

I propose a better ad.

The son introduces his new bride-to-be to his proud, gay parents.

7. I think it's great! Wicked funny having the parents react like the stereotypical hetero parents do!

9. I sent them a message urging them to change the ad, and pointing them to this thread

I just saw your gay adoption ad on YouTube, and I find it counter-productive.

I propose a better ad would be if the young man proudly introduced his bride-to-be to his happy parents.

Also, the message that children raised by homosexuals "do not necessarily become homosexuals" is NOT positive enough.

A better message would be, "Children raised by homosexuals are not any more likely to become homosexuals."

Or perhaps, "Children raised by homosexuals usually do not grow-up to become homosexuals."

Here is a discussion of the ad on Democratic Underground:

Please... change the ad!

Thanks!

10. Watching the ad again, I don't just dislike it. I actually hate it.

In fact, all an anti-gay group has to do is show this ad with the last few seconds removed, before the narrator speaks, and they will have an effective propaganda tool.

11. I have to agree. It's even worse than I thought at first.
My take on things like this is based on how I presume (and I'm a pretty good presumer, having dealt with homophobia for 55 years) it will impact either homophobes or ambivalent folks...and I don't see it as being anywhere near persuasive to acceptance. I think it might even be counterproductive.
grr
