5. The lone gunman analogy occurred to me the other day after I saw the Scarborough clip

where he said Bush failed conservatism. That was right on the heels of O'Reilly 'declaring' that the Bush presidency was over.

I emailed Cenk the clip of Scarborough and added a note about how the Republican strategy is to claim that Bush is the 'lone gunman' that killed our economy, our reputation, our rights, etc.

Just for your own info, you should also note that the word "Conservative" or "Conservatism" is always used as some kind of mythical philosophy that Republicans can always fall back on. They use it to sound better than they are. Like Cenk was saying and, of course, Scarborough was getting at. Anytime a Republican screws up it's always the same thing, "Oh he wasn't a real Conservative," See in Conservative Fairy Tale world, they do things like balance the budget and Ronald Reagan tears the Berlin Wall down with his bare hands. It's always and idealistic place that the GOP never has existed in. Simply put, they can't govern for shit, and when it's proven, they blame it on "not being Conservative." Hell George Bush is the product of Movement Conservatism, he IS a perfect example of their ideology. They all just like to pretend they are better than that. But they aren't. I even had a friend of mine tell me that Bush took the party to the "Left" by driving up the deficit. That's the myth of the "fiscal conservative." What a joke, I had to smack that one down by simply asking when the last time a Republican has ever balanced the budget. Crickets chirped on that one.

And why not? We did the same thing to Bill Clinton on policy. The irony is that the Republicans weren't even attacking him over policy. We just haven't learned how it works yet.

It is just like you say. They are setting the Democrats up, making them think they are forced to comply, so they can then slink away and blame it all on the Democrats. Their entire position: "You're a towel." Same thing as Sarah Palin on Obama's experience: "You're a towel." Nothing energizes their base like hypocrisy. And time and time again that base is enough to give them a majority. I can't blame Cenk for thinking we (voters) are all idiots.
