1. That's so sad :(
I grew up the next town over (Allentown) and it's folks like those that are the biggest reason I moved out to California. There is just something about living in a region not infested with ignorance, racism, and bigotry that I find to my liking, i'm not sure why?

/sarcasm

It's jaw dropping everytime I go home and hear the racist, stupid fucking people talking at local diners and whatnot. It would be funny if it weren't so sad...

I also grew up in Allentown (William Allen class of 1968) and I'm very happy I moved away. I'm now retired in Oregon and it is a great place to live.

Most of the folks that could escape Allentown have done so in the last 30 years. At one time Bethlehem Steel employed 30,000 people, Union members with good pay and benefits. Allentown was the home of Mack Trucks, with the highest hourly wage of any UAW local in the country. It too is a shadow of its former glory days. Bethlehem Steel now employs ZERO people. The great recovery plan was to put a casino on the grounds of the former steel plant Does anyone else see the sad irony where fighting other distressed cities in Pennsylvania for a casino is the only plan for the future?

Let's hope the people in the Lehigh Valley join the rest of us by voting for hope rather than voting for fear and hate.

17. One would hope that after so much hardship...
the valley would have figured it out. But alas, I'm certain McCain will get plenty of votes from the greater Allentown area cause of what I like to call the "old white miser" vote. Both my parents still live in the area, so i go home over the holidays to see them and it's literally jaw dropping everytime i walk into that cesspool. I love that town, it will always hold a piece of my heart but damn there are some racist, ignorant folks around.

It doesn't encourage tourism and trade when they put out easily debunked smear like that. They have to step into the 21st century some time for their own good if nothing else.

10. The guy who can't even say "Barack Obama" acted like he didn't even know what ACORN is.
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 04:25 PM by bulloney
He just spit out a bunch of hateful generic comments, but couldn't specifically say what they are or what they do or how they're tied to Obama.

Where do you suppose he got those opinions to parrot? Hannity? Limbaugh?

Where do you begin to address the irony of some of their remarks?

Why aren't THEY at work?

Killing innocent people? Like what we're doing in Iraq?

Socialist? Like the Bush Administration nationalizing these banks that tanked in recent months?

Communist? Like the political tactics AG Gonzales used in canning Department of Justice employees? Like the Patriot Act and all of the spying the Bush Administration has practiced without legal authorization?

More evidence of the dumbing down of America, brought to you by your friendly RW talk radio.

12. my home town
I was born and raised in Bethlehem PA, live a couple miles north of town still.

never met these type of people before, tho I know they're out there.

this area is a microcosm of the country, and is often used as an indicator of the overall voting trend in elections.

blue collar workers, union members, rich country club types, farmers, amish, fundamentalists, student radicals, every ethic and racial minority under the sun, we've got 'em all.

let's just hope these "folks" are in the minority nowadays.

the irony is that if there was ever a place in this country where the working class was shafted by the republican country club elites, this is it (read the story of Bethlehem Steel). hard to believe there is anyone here outside of the richie enclave of Saucon Valley that isn't a democrat for life.

16. I have done a weekly vigil for over five years.
For most of that time, I was employed as a mechanical designer (CAD) at Carnegie Observatories, doing telescope parts and instruments. When someone told me to get a job, my reply was that I already had one, probably a better job than they had.

As for the other accusations, I said show me the proof. In five years I have been shown the "proof" exactly ZERO times.

18. What's most depressing about this is it's EVERYONE in line. Not just a few idiots.
That's what gets me.

In any big gathering, you're going to get a few kooks. But this isn't just a few. It's everyone in the goddamn line.

No one says, "Of course Obama isn't a terrorist." No one corrects anyone. It's clear they all feel this way.

The mainstream media ought to be showing this. This kind of hatred and bigotry can't abide sunlight.

If only we had a media that wasn't too afraid to tell the truth.

30. Scary- totally scary
As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor these people scare me to death. Ever read the Plot Against AMerica by Philip Roth- these sentiments, this hatred and vitriol- that they are whipping up this kind of sentiment- enciting hatred and violence- it just makes me sad and angry at the same time.

I cannot imagine what will hapen to this country if McCain wins. Aside from the contempt of the world, what will happen to our economy, environment, constitution. I just want this election over and McCain and Palin and their cadre of hatemongers and vile racists and bigots and ignorance back in a cave where they belong. They clearly need another few thousand years to propoerly evolve to humanity.

36. Fucking disgusting.
What is it about all of these . . . grizzled old blue collars . . . what kind of LIVES do these people lead that makes them all batshit insane and hateful like that?

Just like the uber-rich fuckos from Strongsville in his other video or the CNN video of the spouting, hateful, shaking whiteys (and the planted radio host black guy) . . . I mean, do they HONESTLY believe the bullshit? What makes them so incapable of seeing Barack Obama as an ordinary human being? What makes them actually believe that the same old failed policies McCain runs with; the ones that threw this country in the smoldering heap of ruin that it is today will be the policies that get us out of this mess?

Do these people seriously believe anything GOOD came out of the Bewsh I/II/Reagone years?

I mean, it's absolutely amazing and astounding that SO many people can be this fucking DUMB.
