2. Thank you code pink!
Very funny that people walked out on Palin. But it is disturbing to see law enforcement yet again stifle dissent.

9. I am one of the people in that video and you have it wrong -
the police protected us from those thugs. We got thrown out when we WANTED to be thrown out. We did what we came to do, make some people think about the war, and we couldn't take much more of listening to those people or their songs. (Drill Here, Drill Now! UGH!!) We weren't going through that crowd of idiots without an escort, and the police didn't want us to have to do that. After having been in Saint Paul for the RNC, we were surprised but happy that those police officers were there to keep the loonies away from us.

15. Thank you for your support. And thanks to everyone else here
who is behind us. We just couldn't let her come to our state without being there to greet her and try to make people think about just what they mean when they yell for "victory." There were some scary moments before the cops came and my back still hurts from wrestling that banner away from those morans, but it was worth it!

16. The person with the black jacket and white collar walking behind
us holding the peace sign was not one of us. The woman in the mottled orangy-pink shirt wasn't, either, and she hugged me and thanked me for being there. Another person said, "we came to see the freakshow, too" and left with us. Someone said later that those people who left were ALL holding up the peace sign as they were walking out of the venue, but since they were behind us, we didn't see it.

5. Profiles in courage..
Though they had the right to stay there, I'm relieved on a certain level that they were made to leave. I fear they would have been harmed if they stayed.
Codepink members are incredibly brave. I see it time and again them getting in the face of power.

they kept saying that the Palin event drew a "capacity crowd". You can't call it that at Verizon Wireless Center when most of the lawn is empty.

12. I took pictures that show how much of the lawn was empty. But
what was really creepy was that there was NO security. Nobody looked at the tickets, nobody checked people's bags, no metal detectors, absolutely no security checks at all. I did not like being in the midst of those people knowing that they had not been searched for weapons!

18. My friend, Sue, wrote her take on it -
Noblesville, Indiana -- A group of intrepid peace activist Hoosiers (members of CodePINK, Women for Peace) braved a Sarah Palin rally in Noblesville, Indiana yesterday. When we arrived, a country band was playing "Kiss This" which they dedicated to Barack Obama.

It was cold out and the crowd seemed slightly lost, dutifully wearing red as they had been told to, but a little dispirited under the slightly cloudy skies. There were people offering the free tickets at the entrance and we easily found parking in spite of claims in the Indy Star and other local papers that the event was sold out.

<snip>

She told the crowd that "Sarah Palin understands us; she's a mother, a mayor, a moose hunter and a maverick" and with that, the crowd went wild, shaking red and white cheerleader pom poms and their small American flags.

After reminding the audience that Sarah Palin was"real" and had faced the "slick speaking Joe Biden " and noting that Indiana wants to be attractive to business, she wound up with "Sarah Palin wants what we want and she's proved it time and again, keeping one eye on waste and the other on corruption" (no comment on whether she has a third eye trained on Russia). The crowd erupted into shouts of "Country First" and at 5:40, Sarah Palin took the podium in a purple suit jacket (someone forgot to tell her to wear red) and her trademark designer glasses. She rallied the crowd with criticism of the mainstream media to loud boos, her resemblance to Tina Fey (cheers) and noted that the movie "Hoosiers" is at the top of her favorite list of movies. She showcased her knowledge of local culture by invoking the Indianapolis 500 and bragged that her daughter's middle name is "Indy" (apparently for a snowmobile not the race but oh well).

20. If McCain supporters did that at Obama rallies I would be REALLY PISSED. If you want to
protest show up with your signs and stand there, but don't try to disrupt the rally. This is America, where we are supposed to be able to gather to support our candidates--no matter the party.

As far as I'm concerned those demonstrators are just loud-mouthed assholes who have further hardened the opinions of the Palin supporters that Liberals are anti-American.

21. Where did you get the impression that we were there as Obama
supporters? CP is a non-profit and we are very careful not to be partisan whenever we are out as CodePink. If Obama was onstage talking about "achieving victory" we'd be right there asking what that word means. We ask BOTH candidates to end the war on Iraq.

By the way, our freedom of speech doesn't end just because what we yell is different than what the rest of the crowd is yelling, whether you agree with what we say or not.

22. Okay, I amend my remarks to say yelling at the rally. Period. Otherwise, your actions
are un-American and foster the kind of disregard for others' ideas that is so prevalent among the reich-wing.

I DO APPLAUD YOUR EFFORTS TO STOP THE WAR. Just not all the methodology.

Asking, pretty please?

WHAT THE FUCK is unamerican about protesting the illegal genocide and occupation of Iraq?

If you want to be a serf to this imperialistic regime, then do so. But don't expect ANYONE else to forgo OUR Constitution.

35. Here's WHAT THE FUCK'S wrong with it. You are disrupting their rally. Same tactic used
by all ABSOLUTISTS who think their cause is greater or more important than someone else's cause.

I already told you one methodology I applaud. If you feel that you have to show them your opposition to their cause, by all means demonstrate by being present at their site with your signs and banners. Show yourself as an opponent of their policies and beliefs. Be willing to talk with them or answer questions.

But don't try to disrupt their rally. That is UN-American. For a little historical background, read about the rise of fascism in post World War ! Europe. One of the tactics of the fascists was to disrupt the rallies of their opponents. Nice, huh.

It's not what you're protesting but HOW you're protesting that I find repugnant.

Of course, you're all holier-than-thou because you oppose illegal genocide and occupation of Iraq. I oppose them too and have from the start, but that doesn't give me the right to trample on the first amendment rights of those with whom I disagree.

Maybe you should watch the video again. EVERYONE at that rally was shouting. Some were shouting DRILL BABY DRILL and others were shouting END THE WAR. Hmm, Michelle, which of those is more un-American?

23. I completely agree with the point you were trying to make...
This was just rude. And of course they weren't there as official Obama surrogates, but to the tiny republican mind, they are all one in the same. Commie, liberal, terrorist and tree huggin anti-'mericun. If I saw a bunch of rednecks at an Obama,a rally yelling at him and interrupting him, I'd be very pissed. This was stooping to their level and I must say I found it rude.

42. Oh, this is hysterical. Wasn't it you and your pal who came to this
thread to criticize what we were doing? And now you're saying we're all on the same side and YOU are sick of having people critique what you say? That's very hypocritical of you, to say the least.

If you can let someone like Palin come to YOUR backyard and not make sure that history records that there was dissent against her insanity, that's your choice. I cannot, and I will not, sit silently while people are being killed in my name. Period. No matter what anyone thinks about what we do, we must do it anyway. We cannot be a part of and we try to stop it, or at least bring attention to the fact that there ARE people who don't go along, in every way we can think of. Every day. It says a lot about you that you would come here to criticize me and then whine about what other people think of your opinion.
