3. She mentioned the irony of her giving this analogy; leads me to
believe she hangs out at home on Sundays watching games, like I do! :)

5. I saw this last night
got a huge kick out of her comparing Obama putting up a fight in IN with McCain making a fight out of it in MA

7. Hail Mary passes can sometimes work and time of possession does not always decide game
Obama is playing on McCains sides of the field but one of them still has to score ie Nov 4

13. Which is why Obama's not going to the...
"run out the clock, prevent defense" strategy.
He continues to throw downfield - to keep McCain on defense. If McCain doesn't have the ball, it's harder to score.

9. I have never seen a political battle described so clearly using a football analogy.
I don't watch or follow football but like pretty much every American, I know basically how the game is played. The metaphor Rachel used was...perfect and it made sense in the context of the analogy, something I thought would fall apart a few minutes into her talk.

Incredible!

Thanks Rachel!

GOBAMA!

10. I saw it live last night - my jaw dropped wide open at the sheer brilliance
She was talking to every beer-drinking, NASCAR-watching voter. It was amazing!

Thanks for posting! :bounce:

17. every beer-drinking, NASCAR-watching voter.
I wonder how many of them watch her?

I dunno...maybe more than I think....y'know they tune in to see the "hot lesbian"... unless they've already ...uh....shot their wad on Sarah Palin.

Rachel is the BEST, isn't she? Smart and likable. Wonky yet cool. How does she do it? By being real. Do any of you think she's not being herself? Or doesn't really believe what she's saying....Hannity? Rush?

20. Don't forget that the YouTube links get e-mailed and embedded.
I think more people see things like that than we think.

I like watching her - but I miss seeing the look of utter perplexity on Joe Scarborough's face after Keith tosses the paper at the camera - always hysterical!

12. That was great.
Usually when male pundits begin with the sports analogies my eyes glaze over and I change

the channel. However, that was an analogy done very well. I have been watching Olbermann

since 2003, but Rachel is #1.

14. Even *I* understood that!
I have absolutely no clue about American football (or as I teasingly call it, rugby with wimp's padding) but even I could follow and understand Rachel's explanation. Good going, Rachel, and I hope your metaphor strikes true and Obama scores a touchdown on Nov 4.

15. Great analogy and I don't particularly like football but many Americans do
...and the message is loud and clear. Obama/Biden must keep pounding for positions close to McCain's goal line and we Democrats must keep cheering and getting more of the crowd (voters) to move to our side.

16. And Obama has McCain backed up to the 1 yard line
It's 4th an goal, 2 seconds left on the clock, Obama offense has simply just dominated this entire game, leaving the McCain defense bloody and bruised. The ball is snapped, Obama out of the shotgun, he winds up, looks at his favorite receiver, D.C. Washington, there in the endzone.....

23. When asked how to pick a presidential race
. . . the brilliant and succe$$ful prognosticator, Jimmy the Greek, said that it was just like picking a football game. "The team that changes its game plan loses." He said it was no different with a candidate for public office.

Based on that, Obama is a shoe in. If you don't like what McCain is doing today, then don't worry; he'll have a new strategy tomorrow, and it won't work any better.
