Here's another view, from inside the crowd: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHL70l4zaLc

I never thought this would even be possible. NEVER.

7. Okay I finally cried a bit-between this and the East Village and this report from Richmond VA
http://www.inrich.com/cva/ric/news.apx.-content-articles-RTD-2008-11-05-0200.html

Students filled the sidewalks in the Fan District and politicians fought back tears.

Broad Street was shut down from Belvidere to Lombardy streets while a crowd cheered and waved flags and Obama signs. Richmond police estimated more than 2,000 people filled the street.

At one point, the block in front of the Siegel Center was filled wall to wall with happy people. Then the throng moved east down Broad, chanting, "No more Bush" and "Yes we can."

Their numbers reduced to around 400, they gathered on the south side of Old City Hall and, facing the State Capitol, sang the Star-Spangled Banner.

Okay now it hit me :patriot:

14. I am so sorry and so ashamed
This victory is a bittersweet victory when we have such a note of bigotry and intolerance staining it. I feel really sick about Prop 8 and I feel guilty. I feel like I should have worked harder - and I did work.

I know it's no consolation right now but I feel sure that this is by no means the end. The tide is turning and the rights of gay Americans will be won. And I for one am going to dedicate my effors to making that happen.

15. A lot of people worked hard -- and thank you
But it was shoveling shit against the tide. The other side was so well-funded and was so insidious in its mendacity and the fact that the promoters of hate had a captive audience every Sunday to feed their poison to willing minds. That is very hard to defeat, no matter what you do.

I lay the blame squarely at the foot of the "religious leaders" who promoted this act of bigotry. They betrayed a sacred trust to tell their people the truth.

13. In 30 years of being a political junkie, I've never seen anything like it
And watching Americans who have become so jaded and so cynical spontaneously pouring out into the streets, celebrating and then joining together to sing the Star-Spangled Banner, ALL OVER THE COUNTRY!

Oh my god, it's incredible. I'm bawling again.

20. Holy crap....
that was truly a spontaneous and beautiful emotion. Brought chills to my arms... much the same that Obama's acceptance speech gave me.
