Reasonably straight forward questions posed to the officials apparently are too hot to handle ... in public and so an NRC official (THE MODERATOR) watch closely and LISTEN EVEN MORE CLOSELY... directs/volunteers one of his NRC colleagues to speak to Robert outside the public meeting thus preventing the discussion/answers to Robert's questions from being documented on the Federal Record.

If I were Robert I would have demanded that my question be answered ON THE OFFICIAL RECORD!

A court reporter documented every word spoken... in this meeting.

NEXT, John Russell citizen and 2008 District 5 Congressional Candidate makes some very important points as well that will appear on the Federal Record.

Principle point made by Mr Russell being that building additional nuclear power plants will be a disaster of monumental proportion from an economic standpoint in particular when you consider that our global competitors are going in exactly the opposite direction policy wise...

Nuclear energy in addition to all of the other negatives (Huge Capitol Cost, Long Time Horizons for Construction, Declining and increasingly costly sources of fuel, costs of nuclear waste storage/processing that span by some estimates, nearly incalculable time-frames measured in centuries not years or decades.)

John Russell diplomatically points out the wrong-headedness of building more nuclear power plants at a time when far less costly and far more economically dynamic means of generating electricity are within our grasp.

Russell goes on to point out the fact that nuclear is neither clean, green or economical.

In 2008 Germany installed 3,000 megawatts of solar power generation capacity. In the event that the proposed Progress Energy Levy County Florida Nuclear Power Plant is built at a price-tag measured in the tens of $billions of dollars and taking perhaps a decade to construct... it will in the end be capable of producing 3,000 megawatts of electricity.

Now which policy would represent the better policy economically? So where will America be economically speaking compared to Germany for example after we waste 10-15 years building a Dinosaur as Russell contends vs Germany choosing to enter the New Energy Age as Russell denotes.

The reason behind this effort is to "secure" the monopolistic power of the utility industry for the next 50-100 years rather than democratizing power generation through a distributed power generation system.

This IS ... POWER politics in its purist form!

It is up to we the citizens to stand up for our own future economic and employment opportunities by opposing the STRONGARM tactics of the Utility Monopoly.. which is in reality somewhat more of an oligopoly nationally but as we all are painfully aware for each of us our power company is our ONLY choice for electricity irrespective of where we live and therefore realistically speaking these are local monopolies.

Utility Suspends Nuclear Plant Effort :)

A utility in Missouri said Thursday that it was suspending its efforts to build a new nuclear reactor, making its proposed plant, Callaway 2, the first of the so-called nuclear renaissance reactors to fall by the wayside.

The industry has been looking forward to its first construction start in 30 years. According to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, 17 companies have filed applications to build 26 reactors.

The utility, AmerenUE, planned to build a reactor near Fulton, Mo., but was seeking changes in the state law governing the financing of new power plants. In a letter on Thursday, it asked the sponsors of a law now moving through the state legislature to withdraw the measure.

AmerenUE wanted to be allowed to charge its customers for financing costs before the plant was finished.
