selling my labor. Who’s fortune
pushed me closer to my death.
Each day becomes a struggle
against anonymity, faceless bodies
building what we cannot afford.

Unions formed for survival
against the few whose small greedy lives
break the backs of thousands.
White collar. Blue collar.
Remember, it is still a collar--
chains held by how many hands?

It is time to fight
the strong-armed ambition
of the lobbied policy makers
and wage-stranglers:

our voice is our freedom

the streets our palette

what new life are we creating
with each stroke of our pain
