3. What people fail to remember is that the entire African-American story is about a Trickster who wins
Edited on Wed Apr-01-09 02:29 PM by Hekate
Br'er Rabbit is the Trickster who gets into a sticky situation (literally) and still manages to win against the Fox by getting Fox to throw him into his native habitat (the briar patch). Exit one Rabbit, laughing like mad. Exit one Fox, defeated again.

I stick to my mythology in this instance.

Hekate

4. I agree that the story is a very useful one, especially because
I think Obama gets his enemies to figuratively toss him into the briar patch time after time. However, extensive discussion showed that in many places, "tar baby" is a pejorative term applied to young black children. Ironically, the original "tar baby" wasn't black since the "tar" was actually sticky pine sap!

5. Not so subtle code words for the hicks back home to laugh over.
And scream all you want, but that woman is a hick and so are all those that voted her into office.

6. From Wiki:
n September 2005, Foxx was one of 11 members of Congress to vote<3> against the $51 billion aid package to victims of Hurricane Katrina. She was also one of only 33 Republicans to vote against the extension of the Voting Rights Act in July 2006.

In 2008, Congresswoman Foxx introduced the Federal Tax Withholding Act of 2008 (H.R. 5175), which would repeal the withholding of federal income tax and social security tax on wages.

9. I am so tired of this "jumping on phrase" bull shit in this country...
I once used the phrase, "a spade is a spade", and the bloggers went ballistic on me.

I use the phrase as a spade = shovel...and that's ALL it has ever meant to me. I realize the word "spade" is also used as a derogatory name for black people, or people of color...but holy shit!! I am so sick of this over sensitivity to any word that pipes up in the threads or on the news. We need to take a tranquilizer or settle back and let people make their points without going nuts and reading hell into what they are saying.

I don't know what this battle ax meant by her phrase, tar baby...but I'm thinking it's probably an expression meaning something to the effect of a sticky mess. I'd like to have seen the last asshole that slept in the White House tarred and feathered..so, what am I missing here??

Back off America!! There are much more important issues at hand.

10. "tar baby" is a wee bit more than "a spade is a spade".
