14. Amen.
I'm not part of a union, but I don't take them for granted.

19. Same here, IHNB.
Part time teachers in our school district
don't qualify for benefits or the teacher's union.

But I support unions 100% and know a number of
union reps in our district who help me with any
questions I have.

:)

27. Don't forget...
-sick leave
-vacation time
-health benefits
-safer working environments
-40 hour work weeks

Yeah, those damned labor unions. It's a good thing we have Joe the plumber and other "reich" wing hacks to protect the corporations rights over the people who actually earn them their salaries.

10. They make just as much money as doctors do!
I've seen people on this forum use that Fox "News" talking point. :spray:

Even some of the people in the working class hate the unions. I'll never understand it.

This is shocking. It's shocking that a network can lie that much and still have viewers.

16. 30 dollars an hour is lavish?
Let's see if all the paid liars at Faux will work for that. Why do I get the feeling they would scream bloody murder?

I wonder what the average salary is for an on-air liar at Faux? Isn't it about time THEY contributed?

17. Lets also not forget
Edited on Thu Apr-02-09 08:51 PM by Styxiv
These numbers (like Hannity uses) also tend to include ALL of your cash you get not just wages. Example my company pays me almost 14 dollars an hour BUT when they do our reviews and they give you the totals for your job they include the AMOUNT they pay into your insurance 401k matching funds and much more. So while my end of year wages comes in at around 30k a year (actual taxed salary) the total THEY put in ends up being over 40k but I really don't see all that in WAGES as the Faux news clowns try to make it sound. They make it sound like these guys get (as Hannity claims) 70 dollars an hour which is totally FALSE!!!

Not to mention the unions HAVE made some concessions I remember seeing an article on this taking less money. Now is it enough? Maybe not but its a start.

Its also like Cenk says THEY (unions) don't run the company, there's more to tanking a company then wages, that is only a SMALL part of the total package.

24. Agreed. There is much more than wages tanking these companies.

Most of the foreign car manufacturers have already been bailed out by their respective governments. Detroit is on an uneven playing field right off the bat. That is only ONE of the issues I have with how this all went down.

*Edited to add, welcome to DU. Didn't notice your post count at first, not that it matters really.

18. am not for this bill
was member of union and my father as well...he paid dues for 40 yrs but not eligible for benefits. Perhaps this bill works on the east coast? Touted as free choice and not at all... believe me.. the unions pressured me more than employer (hospital) There is no way I would want my vote available to union representatives. House was burned down next door to me at Lake Tahoe by union creeps (Hell's Angels ran plumber's union) and in Vegas...friend was union contractor and built all the hotel highrises...but opened a small non-union shop for residential to compete with AZ contractors with mexicans and had to hire full time protection at his home and business due to bomb and death threats.

20. The UAW pensions were funded in perpetuity, and solvent...
The reason that UAW pensions are no longer solvent is that the big-3 CEO's and other corporate officers raided them for years in order to pay bing-boggling bonuses to themselves. The UAW pensions were STOLEN!
