As Barack Obama announces more US troops to train the Afghanistan army, John D McHugh reports on how US soldiers view their Afghan counterparts as ill-disciplined, badly led and with a crippling taste for hashish.

1. It's like reading the memoirs of german colonialists

in eastern africa. They use exactly the same words for the Njamwesi and other east african tribes.
Never mind the subject this is like the best proof ever for anyone wanting to deny the american empire :-)

and on-topic: The Afghan army is a joke. Wouldn't want to have them covering my ass. And nobody can blame them. They should look out for themselves and not risk their lives for that freak charade in Kabul.

3. The situation has less to do w/ hash..............

and more with the lack of training and motivation of the Afghans. If you take the word of one soldier quoted in the video, they are resigned to their country going to shit. If they want to succeed, their motivation has to come from within and they have to believe that Afghanistan is worth wresting from the hands of the insurgents.

4. The real problem is the lack of commitment the Afghan government has given to the soldiers

The soldiers see the Afghan government ignoring their needs while corruption runs rampant and the government acquiesces to warlords and the Taliban in some areas of the country.

That wouldn't get me motivated to fight either.
