Sea level rise will be one of the most destructive effects of climate change, so naturally, Deniers have something grossly in error to say about it.
We'll look, as always, at the source documents.

1. And this, folks, is THE story.
It should be dominating the Greatest Page and should be dwarfing 95% of the other crap DU talks about.

Will this one even make it to 5 recs? :eyes:

22. I just added the 28th Rec...
but I think we're preaching to the choir here. It's not the DUer's that need to be convinced that this shit is serious. It's those head-in-the-sand Republican goofballs who are more concerned with allowing rich people to make a buck today than having a planet to live on tomorrow.

What we should all be doing is forwarding Crock of the Week videos to the Republicans in our lives and let them try to defend their positions.

20. Yes, I would have listened to the whole thing myself but I couldn't stand that repeating music.
What was the object of that once-per-two-seconds-repeating music anyway? It sounded like an attempt to hypnotize the listener. A video without the music would be much more valuable to the cause.

I understand everything else that goes on here at DU, I read it everyday, even if i don't post... I support Progressive causes all the time, but really when it comes down to it, if we don't have a planet that we can live on what is the point of anything else...

7. I was privileged;
To attend an I.P.C.C. seminar while I attended the local university. Another aspect that was not covered in the report is the amount of methane due to be released soon. The methane will come from ancient carbon sources embedded in the permafrost in the taiga. Methane is many more times harmful as a greenhouse gas than is carbon dioxide. For right now, there is not much methane in the atmosphere. All that will change once the permafrost melts, releasing the pent up methane. The scientist who was lecturing mentioned this because the I.P.C.C. researchers could not come up with good enough figures on how much methane will be released this year, next year and ten years from now so they left it out of their calculations. The lecturer said that he was scared of this because they warming in the taiga had the capability of becoming a runaway freight train; once started, there was no way humans could stop it.

8. You may be dismayed to know this may have already begun

Arctic 'methane chimneys' raise fears of runaway climate change

Researchers say evidence suggests that the frozen seabed is perforated and is starting to leak methane, but other scientists urge caution

This is still unverified, but if it is occuring, then we have considerably less time than we thought, and by all accounts, the rate of change is outpacing our estimates. Scary times.

14. Shit, that's the kind of story that should be BREAKING NEWS all over the networks!
Unfortunately, the only way that'll happen is when it's already too late and they're reporting the carnage that ensues.

10. Global Warming ... the Self-Inflicted Danger for all Humans
exasperated by their own ignorance. I speak generally because there are folks working their asses off on this issue to educate people and try to get our dipshit corporate -owned government to do something useful. Wasting trillions on war has been suicide... it wil cost more in dealing with global warming if we all do nothing.

"Hey, look son... see that? That's a choo-choo-train coming right at us."

12. Bring on the Rapture! The End of Times!
There is a certain amount of poetic love in the fact,
that a society and religion that denies the life of the planet shall
suffer in conjunction with the death of the very religion that
brought about this fate. Christianity as well as all monotheistic religions
denies the sentience of the planet, the planet denies
the life of Christianity. I'm sure some will say, why Christianity, why the angry,
male sky god, why should we be to blame. Well sure, we could have all been friends,
but eventually one of us was gonna half to be on top.
I think the bigger one is gonna win.

Earth, dumb ass.

13. These religious people
are simply tools of a greedy corporate world. We are under the thumb of corporate rule as never before. Because the MSM will never report a dire scenario that would move the populace to vote for real environmental action. Look, for example, how the Bush Administration altered long term climate change reports. The energy producers will never be held accountable, not with the power they have amassed through obscene profits. Powerful forces are already aligned to defeat even the meager cap and trade policies proposed. I'm just saying what you already know.

mountains for a dry place to stand...

But then, the mountains are under attack too.
