We take a look at how one North Carolina town is trying to become more self-sufficient by moving toward being able to feed, fuel and finance itself. The town of Pittsboro houses the nations largest biodiesel cooperative, a food co-op, a farmers market and, most recently, its own currency, the Pittsboro Plenty. Pittsboro is one of a number of communities across the country printing their own money in an attempt to support local business.

Cooperatives FTW!!

Of course you would still need the FED paper outside of the state but if more states started this idea their individual economies would improve on their own as more locals would like the idea of buying and keeping their wealth inside their community.

2. Pittsboro
Pittsboro is a lov-er-ly little town....with a traffic circle in the center of town with the quaint Courthouse in the middle. It is small and in the boonies but it is also in the middle of an area surrounded by Raleigh (The capital), Chapel Hill (UNC), Durham (Duke), Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Asheboro (the zoo)....not far from I-40, I-85, highway 220.... It's small but near and in the middle of quite a busy, populated and traveled area.

How cool is this? Reminds me of the 60's and 70's. Groovy!

5. Yes, this is the second time (attempt). It's working this time
because banks are accepting the currency.
