The 'official' unveiling of the FDOTUS (First Dog Of The United States) will be held Tuesday at the White House with Senator Ted Kennedy in attendance.

1. A "video" of the same pics that are already all over the place? Weak.

3. Well it might be weak BUT
some people (like I used to do) only look in the video section, so I thought it was worth posting for those folks that haven't seen Bo as of yet. Thank you for your comment anyway. And Happy Easter.

name is Amigo's New Hope. How perfect.

Thanks for posting this.

11. Yup, thought of the same thing,
but my kids aren't around and I couldn't reproduce it in my own brain!

Looks cute to me. Hope the family can suitably handle the experience, as none of them have had pets in the past.

15. How Bo Wound Up With the Obamas.
'It starts at a doggie love shack on the bank of a creek in far western Pennsylvania and ends at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Along the way, the world's suddenly most famous puppy has had ups and downs. He has known rejection and the joy of newfound affection.'

16. A touching story and what an adorable and lucky dog...
Sounds a bit like my little Jack's story, though he found me instead of the First Family... (Shhh! Don't tell him!) ;)

What do you think about fact that none of them have had pets before? See any 'tentativeness' in pic?

18. I did think of that, but both Barack and Michelle are responsible and compassionate people...
And what kid wouldn't be thrilled with a pup like this?! I'm sure that the children will receive complete instruction in "puppy care," and it's obvious that they all already love him... :D :loveya:

and they're not in anything like OUR situations, but we (you, I and other pet owners) know so much more about living with and caring for animals. I hope some staffers over there will help out.

20. Though we've been told that the girls will be responsible for cleaning up,
somebody's going to have to teach them, along with everything else they'll need to know about caring for a puppy. Since their parents are so busy all of the time, there has to be some other adult that is going to be in charge of seeing that the dog is cared for and teaching the kids. I have the same worries, feel that nobody (except for my friends in rescue :loveya:) can care for a pet better than me, LOL.

Even Barney had a minder (not a good one, granted, since that reporter was bitten... :eyes: ) when Bush* wasn't carrying him around for photo ops or dropping the poor thing on his head. He should have left his pets with the Obamas... x( :-(

21. Its things like reading 'puppy language' that I wonder about.
Edited on Mon Apr-13-09 02:39 AM by elleng
Right, nobody better than I (and you!) Example: I think my husb ('stranged)allowed our dog to become so sick that vet said he couldn't do anything, and she died in husb's arms. And my current landlord/friend doesn't want any pets here. :-( x( :(

22. I understand exactly what you mean.
Things that a person familiar with dogs would immediately recognize, that the uninitiated would not. I am so very sorry about your pup and I can see how you'd be worried.

I'm the same way. For example, I've had two dogs prone to seizures and a third who developed them, Cushing's Syndrome. The first time my Samantha had one, I was totally clueless, absolutely freaked out, was afraid she was dying, called any animal hospital that would talk to me, late on a Sunday night... :scared:

I got back to my friend in rescue who had placed her with me, and she found out that this was the reason this little cocker was given up. *sigh* I read up on everything I could find out about it, as well as talking at length with more than one vet. So when I ended up adopting another cocker who was prone to seizures (she had two on the night I brought her home... :-( ), at least I didn't panic and knew what to do. I knew to time them and when my friend in rescue asked for my advice, I was shocked when she said her poor dog's seizure lasted for 90 minutes! Yikes! I was ready to rush mine to the vet when it got up to six minutes! :wow:

I also brought that pup to a vet who also offered alternative medicine, wanted to avoid an anticonvulsive, if I could. :-(

But if there's a doctor always on call for the POTUS, there's probably also a vet. Let's just hope that they choose the right one. I'd offer them mine in a heartbeat. :-)

23. Well, I know an animal hospital in DC thats open 24/7,
and I'm sure they could find an on-call vet for the First Pup!

24. You're right! That's another thing!
We also have an Animal Emergency Clinic (my vet's the director there :-) ) that's open nights, weekends and holidays. They're just the best. I know that they're just a phone call away and have had to rush three of my pups there. ;( But a surprising number of people aren't aware of such things. :-(

I'd bet, however, that President Obama (still gives me a little rush to type that... ;) ) would think of this, or he'd have an adviser who would inform him. You're right, they probably have already chosen a vet for the First Pup. But it wouldn't hurt for the two of us to have a little chat with him, just in case. :hi:

26. Btw...
To anyone that is wondering why the Obamas couldn’t find a Portie at a rescue shelter…

From ABC news:

“In the 1970s, Portuguese water dogs were nearly extinct, with only 25 left in the world. But they have since made a comeback.
