He claims the 2010 decade will be biotech revolutions and 2020s will be nanotech. He bases his predictions on exponential trends in things like shrinkage of manufacturing parts, transistors per chip and cost to identify a base pair in DNA.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/118375/three_minutes_with_ray_kurzweil.htmlI love Kurzweil's stuff, but his predictions in the past have been too optimistic. He made a variety of predictions back in the 80s about 2009 and while we have the tech to do most of them now, they are not mainstream. Some of his predictions (self driving cars) are still in the lab phase as DARPAs road challenge shows. Most of the things he predicted for 2009 back in 1999, but making 10 year predictions is different than 30 years predictions.
http://www.kurzweilai.net/meme/frame.html?main=/articles/art0275.htmlOn another note I googled Jeffrey Grossman (the guy in the suit in the video) because he looked young to be leading a research team at Berkeley, so I was curious about his age and where he did his PhD and postdoc. I didn't find that but I did find out that he donated $500 to Obama. hahahahaha.
