1. I just read an almost sad article about her
Edited on Fri Apr-17-09 11:39 PM by niceypoo
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1171536/They-called-Susie-Simple-singing-superstar-Susan-Boyle-laughing-now.html">Apparently she was the target of teasing right up until this week. Local children would torment her, knocking on her door and running. She said that everyone who was mean to her was, 'now nice to her.'

She will definately get the last word. She will walk from this whole thing as one of the most beloved people on the planet and with millions. She is like the ultimate underdog. You go girl!

3. Those could be exactly the same children who are now knocking on her door for her autograph

They must have surely learnt something positive about how to treat people from this. It's almost like a biblical parable, not that I'm religious.

Edit to add that there's some great photos in there, thanks for the share!

5. She is the ultimate underdog. No one believed in her.
I know that feeling! I guess a LOT of people do and that's why she appeals - one reason anyway - there are many. In the article she says the kids don't bother her too much - it's water off a duck's back.

I CAN vouch for verbal abuse she suffered as a kid and how verbal abuse leaves emotional scars that never heal, as she said. It's worse than physical assault/abuse, for that reason. These are the tender places where she and her story touch me. Then there's the angelic voice and the genuine person behind it.

6. I can totally concur with everything you've said

Thank-you for being so honest and open, I've always had a problem with fitting into cliques (possibly because I'm too much of an individual) and was bullied verbally and physically for it when I was a kid.

I think you've succinctly expressed one of reasons why I, personally, feel so touched by all this.

Thanks again, Triana.

8. That emotional stuff
lives with us forever, while physical abuse does heal, like you said. I hate that people have treated Ms. Boyle so badly. And it is all the more reason to hope for her success.

7. Seeing Susan handle all of this sudden fame at 48. She is, indeed, a treasure.
Edited on Sat Apr-18-09 02:33 AM by Bobbieo
I wonder if she could have handled it as well when she was 24.

11. THANKS for all of these.

Notice that she's the youngest of 9! SO, hope her siblings are 'with' her. I sense we don't have much to worry about, as she seems to be quite strong.

Just read the news article; her siblings are around, kind of.

Interesting that in her youth: 'Recalling her childhood, she said earlier this week: 'I was born with a disability and that made me a target for bullies.
'I was called names because of my fuzzy hair and because I struggled in class. I told the teachers but, because it was more verbal than physical, I could never prove anything.'

She had and may still have learning differences, which are understood now (by many, and in many schools) but not so, then.

I wish her the most excellent support system. She's gonna need it.

16. Doubtful she will be on her own
My brother has been in the music business for twenty years, he swears the business is fueled by cocaine and pot. Doubtful she will see that side of it.

12. Reminds me of an ex landlady
I lived in a boarding house. My landlady was a 78yr old spinster, lived with her parents her whole life. Very strict practicing Catholic. Skinny, tall old woman, so frugal she wore her clothes down to rags.
The house was amazing; her father built it, and it is one of the oldest houses in town. We all had beautiful antique furniture in our rooms. She was an ex-schoolteacher, and gave after school piano lessons. I used to sit up in my room, and listen to these little kids practice, and get better and better every week.

One day she decided to give me lessons (lasted about 5 minutes). Then she sat down and played Amazing Grace, and I yawned. Then she got this little smirk on her face, stood up, pushed back the piano stool, and ran back and forth, up and down the keys, Amazing Grace the ragtime version. It was a hoot.

13. Hey your ex-landlady sounds pretty cool.
I'd have loved to see that smirk and heard a ragtime version of Amazing Grace! That had to be something!
