2. What can we do from here?
This really isn't so surprising, but its a step toward understanding we cannot rely on the actual President or his staff to uphold justice. I think we should all put our energy into this situation, we honestly need to build a firmer platform on elite legalities and use every tool (media/protests/debate) to not let these people decide who is a criminal everywhere else except in their own house.... Really is unfortunate though.......

3. No good
We need to hunt down and prosecute any and all Bushies. Put
them in Gitmo and use their own "torture" on them
and see how they like it.

4. Obama to the citizens, ' Man I can't give up this illegal power. It feels too good
and I might need it some day!' Ps sucks to be us! *'s legacy of denuding our Armed Services has come down to 'qualified recruits' joining drug using gang members on the battle field. Raise your hand if you didn't know that this was happening.

6. I heard that as no prosecutions for "lower level" guys who did the torture.
Has Obama specifically said no prosecutions for the guys who wrote the orders and directed the
torture? I can't remember....

10. This article contains Emanuel's words about not pursuing the criminals:

The president did not intend to prosecute Bush administration officials who devised the policies that led to such interrogations, his chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, said yesterday.

Asked on Sunday about the fate of those officials, Emanuel told ABC's This Week programme that Obama believed they "should not be prosecuted either and that's not the place that we go".

11. Emanuel's words - not Obama's.
I've never trusted a word he ever said - why should I believe him now?

I think Obama's silence speaks volumes.

12. Then why did Obama choose Emanuel?
Obama's silence says nothing to me. Just more silence. He should be speaking out on these matters, not standing silently by while Emanuel speaks for him. Obama chose this man to be his chief of staff. Who is in charge I wonder?

13. Horseshit. Emanuel chatting up the Sunday talking heads is not an official position.

Cherry-picking statements from this administration is not "unequivocal" policy.

President Obama specifically excluded prosecution for the CIA underlings but made NO MENTION of those that crafted the policy nor those that ordered its implementation.

America is still digesting these memos. President Obama has provided the ammunition for prosecution. Watch this space.
