3. Diversion from the the torture issue
So, who was Harmon talking to? A member of AIPAC? Was this member of AIPAC also one of her constituents or someone she knew from her temple or socially?

I'll bet these kinds of contacts take place more often than you would like to think. To a certain extent, this is how politics works. A Congressperson does not necessarily know when talking to a caller, a campaigner, a fundraiser, a friend, a constituent, a petitioner -- whether that person is simply and advocate or an activist or a foreign agent.

There is a lot of innuendo in this news report but whether a crime was committed or not depends on a lot of subtle background information that the reporter did not bother to acquire.

If you are active in politics you talk to all kinds of people all the time. They all want you to help them with this, that or the other. You sign a petition. You say sure you will help or support the cause.

Let's say that some animal rights group asks you to help them with something and you say yes. Maybe the specific event that you attend or support or speak or perform at is quite innocuous -- but maybe they are using that event to raise money to support some vandalism or other activity that is illegal. Are you part of the conspiracy?

Meanwhile, we know that torture was committed. We know who committed it. We know that torture is a violation of the law and that those who authorized the torture knew full well that they were violating the law. Where are the prosecutions? The torture was a violation of international and federal law. Where are the prosecutions?

Jane Harmon should be investigated, but her case is far from the point of prosecution. Let's keep our focus here. The torture is a far more serious crime.
