7. She lost because her scores were lower than the others in all sections

She came in 2nd and 3rd in the swimsuit and evening gown portions of the competition. Look at Miss USA 2009 on Wikipedia and they have each ones scores for each event. She was NOT the frontrunner at any time.

The winner and runner up were from Blue states and the next 8 in the top ten were from Red states.
Lots of red states got into the finals!

Regardless of what she said as a response to the Perez question, she flubbed the elocution of it pretty bad.

20. She was barely above the 2nd Alt girl

Whatever it was she got 2nd in, the other girl got 3rd and then they reversed those positions in the other event so they both got 2nd and 3rd but Prejeans total score was SLIGHTLY higher than the 2nd Alt. The scores are on wikipedia but I don't know how to link it here. I agree her public speaking was horrible, but the winner took the other 2 events hands down so Prejean never had a chance anyway.

since her "one side or the other" everything-is-black-and-white outlook IS, unfortunately, representative of how many Americans view and respond to so many of the important issues we face.

I'm glad she is so proud of her utter lack of nuance. Good for her. She's going to need something to cling to when her 15 mins is up and she drifts away into obscurity.

They hate it when people denigrate them for being "beauty contests" but then when contestants are asked to answer difficult questions, they complain about it being soooo unfair. And "subjective!"
