Former Christian coalition director argues for torture

By David Edwards

Ralph Reed, the former director of the Christian Coalition, told Foxs Sean Hannity that he supports the torture interrogation techniques used on terrorism detainees. Were talking about 20 to 40 seconds that they were underwater, were talking about three detainees only out of the 250 most hardened, and were talking about the fact that medical personnel were on hand to make sure that there was no physical or bodily harm, said Reed.

2. I'm not surprised it's Reed, and not surprised it was on FOX
The Christian Coalition, like the Moral Majority, is neither.

3. I didn't watch the clip
But I was wondering, since he uses the title Christian for his organizations, and for introductions on TV.

Did he offer any examples of the Christian teachings of Christ, when advocating his position to torture?

4. Who Would Jesus Torture?
Why does Ralph Reed always look like he just slinked out of a leather bar?

6. The greatest trick the devil ever performed was convincing man that he did not exist...
Edited on Thu Apr-23-09 10:50 PM by Liberal_Christian
... and convincing man that the "Christian Coalition" and other right wing ideologies are Christian.

These people are in almost no way Christian.

Jesus Christ said things like "turn the other cheek" and "Love your enemies" and "bless them that curse you" and "do GOOD to them that hate you" and "Love your brother as you love yourself" and "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and "Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God"
-Yet these self-righteous right wing hacks will advocate water-boarding, guns, war, ...

These guys will be more than happy to admit that they "don't believe in handouts"... but guess who does... JESUS CHRIST. Funny how right-wingers won't give to the "welfare-queens" yet they claim to worship Christ who said go "Sell all that you have, GIVE TO THE POOR, you will have treasure in heaven, come follow me"

Funny how they deregulate corporations and provide huge tax-decreases for the upper percentile and claim that the only American view of success is to become as wealthy as possible by any means possible yet they claim to worship Jesus Christ; the one who said "a rich man shall hardly enter into the Kingdom of heaven" and "it is easier to pass a camel through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven" and "Woe unto you who are rich, for ye hath received your consolation" and "YOU CANNOT SERVE BOTH GOD AND WEALTH"

Funny how they're the ones who want to infuse Christianity with a man-made government and say that people shouldn't "by American right" pay as much taxes while at the same time claiming allegiance and adherence to the one (Jesus Christ) who said "render that which is Caesar's unto Caesar, and that which is God's unto God"

I guess that's the problem isn't it. The GOP's main source of marketing is of giving that which is God's to THEIR Caesar!!!! ie. Falwell (Moral Majority) got Reagan into office, Robertson (Christian Coalition) got Bush Jr into office, and now we have other organizations along with them like Dobson's "family research counsel" to pervertedly carry on this warped legacy of the misrepresentation of Jesus Christ in order to get Republican/Conservatives into office.

It isn't the Liberals, the Democrats, the ACLU, the gays, the lesbians, the secularists, the progressives, or even the abortionists that pose the biggest threat to Christianity; IT'S THE GOP!!!!! THEY are the money-exchangers in the temple! The Christian Right does day in day out the very mentality that caused Christ to throw over tables in anger!

7. I can't help it...
...but when Hannity, who has no military experience, juts out his chin, uses that snotty tone, and mimics the badass, I just want to slap his face with an open palm. No discussion, no debate...just a perfect stinging slap down that the snot just flies.

I'm so bad...

I am familiar with that clip but I just found out that the receiver was none other than John Stossel, which, of course, made it all the more delicious.

8. Republicans: Belief in religion, when it's convenient... in the Constitution, when it's convenient

That's their m.o. - wonder if God appreciates that - I know the founding fathers of this country don't.

12. There are so many lies in this piece that it's shameful!!
Torture is not reliable and can render more disinformation than truth. When used by the Japanese against Americans in WWII, our country prosecuted and punished the torturers.

Our enemies in war are human. We cannot treat them inhumanly. Christians are taught through Christ that as we so to the least of us we do unto him.

The torture that Mohammed had to endure was not in emergency mode. He was abused over years. Waterboarded 183 times. Who could do this and not know that it is perverse?

If my loved one's lives had to depend on information attained this way I would not trust it to act on it.

If we are not smart enough and humane enough NOT to torture, than we are no longer a civilized people, and this is no longer the United States of America.

If our country has existed until George Bush without using torture as a tool, and we revered those who led us, then what makes us lose our humanity and torture under a Bush America?

sums it up. When fascism comes to America it will draped in the flag and carrying a cross
Their goal has always been to pervert Scripture and it's Author. You can't achieve a coup d'état with dissenters..they must be assimilated.

15. Reed uses religion as a shield for immorality
He would be best characterized as a leader in the Konservative Kristian Kouncil. Scumbag works too.
Who thought we'd live to see the day when the Ku Klux Klan had its own TV network?

16. That's twisted.
Would he mind if his local police waterboarded him 266 times in 2 weeks while questioning him about a crime in his neighborhood? And would he consider it Christian behavior if they did?

That's just twisted.
