This is from the regular hour, not the overtime show.

"Bill Maher talks with Howard Dean, Bethany McLean and Dana Gould about the irrational conservative reaction to global warming science." Randy Cohen weighed in as well.

Dean points that that conservatives don't want to tackle climate change issues because it is expensive, they don't want to spend the money. Dean says conservatives by nature are reactionaries. Maher calls them morons.

Dana Gould asks if it is because Gore became the champion of the need to address climate change...that "they would rather fry than acknowledge the other side had a good idea."

5. Appalachia can't stand anymore...
we've been bombed, blasted and bulldozed right into 3rd world America. This area should look more like Dubai than Darfur. End Mountaintop Removal, the prosperity is killing us. http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=138

6. What has happened with the mountaintop removal is tragic.
I have wondered how it came to be even considered to be an ok thing to do. Breaks my heart to see pictures of it.

9. Thanks for spelling out what Dana Gould said, I could barely hear it
on my speakers.

I do believe Gould touched his finger on an emotional, political power dynamic behind denial.

Thanks for the thread, madfloridian.

12. Wow a TV panel without any crazy righties!
Maybe because it's HBO? I don't think it's permitted anywhere else in the media.

Seems fair and balanced to me. A serious discussion by serious, thinking people. :)

15. I don't scare easy, but the insanity of the "conservatives" is appalling.
I remember in life guard training you never go to save someone from the front because they're panicky and you should go under water to turn them around at the knees and grab them from behind because they will drown you if they can get their hands on you. These crazy people need to be forcibly turned somehow because they're hysterical. And dangerous.

17. We're gonna need 100 years
of progressive Democrats in the Presidency and the Congress to save the damn world. I could weep when I think about Al Gore "losing" in 2000. To ponder how much farther ahead we'd be is tragic.

20. Disappointing . . .
Edited on Sun Apr-26-09 12:49 PM by defendandprotect
in that no one makes clear that this isn't really "conservative morans" rather it is

their corporate masters who have paid for this influence on government and elected officials.

This was for decades the oil industry -- still is ExxonMobil! -- paying billions for propaganda

to distort Global Warming info and to convince the public that there was no issue -- and that

if there was anything minor to be concerned about, Exxon was handling it!!!

The Royal Academy of Sciences called ExxonMobil out on this a year or more ago telling them

to STOP! the lies and propaganda.

So -- yes, it's capitalism and its judgment of everything based on the yardstick of a dollar

bill. In fact, it is the invention of the dollar bill which provides the tool for buying

government, legislators and political power.

Conservatives are stupid enough to do this dirty work for corporates/elites.

AND, really would be surprised if we had the luxury of 15 years considering the overall

pollution and damage we've done to the planet!

PS: Really, really tired of seeing white men in black suits ---

Nice to see a pregnant woman there and a guy without a tie/penis.

21. "The Republican Party started in 1980 and the nation was founded in 1950"
That seems to be the belief of many of the RW'ers. And yet their own beliefs seem to be from the 1400's.

22. I am not so worried about the pugs who do not know anything - what
worries me is the everyday working man and woman who do not have the time to become informed thus missing the point that the message is urgent.
