"War crimes will be prosecuted, war criminals will be punished and it will be no defense to say,
“I was just following orders.”

UPDATED To include:
Just before launching his invasion of Iraq, President Bush went on national television to issue an ultimatum to Saddam Hussein, urging him to leave his country within 48 hours. Bush also had (the above) message for “all Iraqi military and civilian personnel”:

I http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=8374150&mesg_id=8374188">posted the text yesterday, but that video is an improvement. It drives home the Bush hypocrisy even better.

Between this video and the one where Bush says he saw the first plane hit live that morning of 9/11 would do Americans some good to see what he really was and is.

36. Progressives need to work on framing arguments.
I'm tired of Republicans being able to turn every bloody issue into a winner.

The Dems need to put George Lakoff on their payroll. The article below sums it up pretty nicely.

40. sadly, it doesn't work as well against most of the ones I argue with
And I do try to reframe and use analogies, and the things mentioned in that article. The right seems impervious to facts or emotions. In fact, I had one guy say it was acceptable (if torture lead to the deaths of soldiers) because it would save so many citizens. Face, meet desk.

Another way to reframe is to ask them if they would find the same actions acceptable if done by Clinton or Obama.

The Senate and The House Leadership were meeting with President Bush for a weekly breakfast back then, and as our country was leading up to the Iraq war. ... Bush got to talking about why we needed this war, and here's what he said to Senator Daschle "We need to get Saddam Hussein...that Mother _______ tried to take out my Dad."

that's one of the big reasons why so many innocents (poorer than poor...) got murdered and tortured (and/or the other way around)...

plus the oil (80% of it)
plus chainy's buddies on helliburton's board's bonusses
plus all their lies

Nuremberg 'em.

He said we weren't to use weapons against the Iraqi people.

Aren't "insurgents" people who stand up when they
are invaded?

Weren't we killing Iraqi's?

Someone help me out with this cognitive dissonance!

52. As a follow-up, watch Stewart's interview with Cliff May
You need to watch this.

Cliff May is President of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a right-leaning group that feels that the released memos are not torture memos. That the water-boarding that took place was not torture.

Jon Stewart is, well, Jon Stewart, and speaks for all of us to some degree.

Except...
Except for rejecting prosecuting the interrogators and the attorneys. Like it or not, "I was following orders" or "I was following legal advice that told me it wasn't torture" just aren't good enough. And, there's plenty of evidence that interrogators went way beyond the memos, in any case.

I wonder if 'W' still feels that way, or will when it becomes even more obvious that Rumsfeld and Cheney were directly responsible for torture.
