2. I sure hope so
I don't fault Specter for wanting to keep his role..it's what most of them do. The GOP has become the pary of hate and really put it on him after he voted for the stimulus and it was obvious they were out to get him. But we really don't need anymore conservadems in
the party. I believe him when he says he won't be an automatic 60th vote but hey now and again is alright too.

3. Heck, some of the other Dems aren't automatic Dem votes either.
On the other hand, we can often pick off a few Republican votes, so sometimes it's a wash.

The thing that I've noticed is that it's the really important votes where some Dems defect, and the GOP votes straight party line. So I'm not exactly sure about how often this is going to be "filibuster proof" in real life.

Then again, I also think the Dems should fucking stop worrying about filibusters anyway. Make them filibuster. They aren't on the side of the citizens. Make them stand up in front of a camera and show off fighting what the people want. See how well that works out for them.

about the filibuster proof idea and like you said many of the dems aren't automatic either. Hell yes..stopping coddling them and let them go for it! Don't know why Reid doesn't call their bluff.

5. It should help with procedure
That's the most immediate difference. He's not an automatic vote, but he should help at least get stuff to the floor to vote on.
