Egypt, Cairo June 4th 2009

US President Barack Obama Speech, defends the official 9/11 story. "These are not opinions to be debated, these are facts to be dealt with."

1. Odd way to summarize what he says in the clip
from the Cairo speech.

He lists a bunch of things, all of which have the virtue of being true, and states that "these are facts, not opinions to be debated".

He does NOT say that no one can present any other facts or if they do they face some sort of consequence (that would be "warns" in your headline).

There is no doubt that planes flew into the WTC on 9/11. Something flew into the Pentagon and exploded, something flew into a farm in PA or was possibly shot down.

There is no doubt that Al Qaida had people on some of those planes (if not all, if they were all planes).

There is no doubt that Osama bin Laden (who might be dead now) took credit for the attack.

So... beyond that, are there MORE facts... quite possibly... and maybe not.

2. Unfortunately, the history of "al Qaeda" and US/Saudi special ops intersect...
Nafeez Ahmed has documented many, many instances where what we call “al Qaeda” was used by US/Saudi oil interests throughout the Near East. He’s written several books on the subject, but here’s a good hour long talk he gave a few years back where he outlines his ideas:

3. "These are not opinions..."
1. AQ killed nearly 3k people that day (9/11)
2. The victims were innocent people who had done nothing to harm anyone
3. AQ chose to ruthelessly muder these people
4. AQ claimed credit for the attack
5. AQ states their determination to kill on a massive scale
6. AQ has affiliates in many countries and are trying to expand their reach

Which of these facts do you deny, and what is your evidence?

4. # 5 could have problems in the context of 9/11 when added
to the propaganda in the United States as well as the cover up of the underlying issues of how we got where we are now. The targets chosen were symbolic in nature and not really as a first purpose of killing as many innocent people as possible indesciminately in the United States. The targets were symbolic and political in their eyes. What do the targets have in common: the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Capitol Hill?

7.  In 2004 there was a tape released
which had someone identified as Osama bin Laden (to prove or disprove the identity, we rely on CIA or former CIA experts) who took credit for the 9/11 attacks and promised future action. The tape was played on Al-Jazeera.

8. The facts in evidence do not preclude any number of
conspiracies.

For example:

Al Qaida was once a CIA funded and supported organization (fact), did they ever quit working for the CIA?

Let's say they did, is it possible that the CIA knew about OBL's plans and decided to silently (without OBLs knowledge) help them along?

Let's assume that the WTC attack happened JUST AS SEEN ON TV, with no outside help... could the CIA and Dick Cheney decide to direct the attention of Air Traffic, the Air Force, and the FBI in other directions on 9/11? (LIHOP).

Or, was the government simply hugely incompetent AND unlucky?

Any or all of those could be true without changing the fact that some lose organization (The Base or the DATABASE of Islamic fighters or Al Qaida) hijacked some number of planes and flew them into buildings, killing most of those 3000 (even if the towers hadn't collapsed, it is unlikely that anyone located on the floors above the impacts would have survived, and it is also true that the vast majority of people below the impacts did make it out).

In any event, what President Obama stated as facts in Cairo, are indeed, facts.

There may be more facts not yet in evidence.

9. Shoot, without conspiracy nuts, we might get something done!
Like we might fix the economy or health care or global warming. We don't want to do that, because it's hard...it's HARD, isn't it?

Better to natter on about how the CIA and Cuban expatriates from Miami, working for oil companies and Microsoft, blew up the towers to complete the deal with the Bavarian Illuminati and those freedom-destroying Jews! Otherwise, people might have to do real work.

16. I would say ALL THE FACTS tell a different story . . .
Edited on Sat Jun-06-09 01:42 PM by Klimmer777
and anyone who knows and uses the Scientific Method, any facts that invalidate the Official Conspiracy Theory (OCT) or hypothesis, then you must reject the hypothesis, or the OCT in this case. And many of the known facts we now know completely invalidate the OCT. Therefore a new investigation into 9-11 must be done. We do not know the full truth of 9-11.

Why is the US Government so fearful of the truth? Re-investigate. LET ALL OF THE EVIDENCE AND FACTS BE KNOWN. That is how science works. Full sunshine. Hide nothing. Let the truth of the entire evidence determine the truth of 9-11.

Everything hangs on the house of cards that is the OCT and the 9-11 Commission Report. If it falls then all the lies fall. And there is our answer. "They" don't want the truth to be known because all of the lies will fall instantly . . .

Obama is wrong on this.

26. "Obama is wrong on this" . . .
agreed . . . it's one of many things he's wrong about, unfortunately . . . he's wrong about how healthcare should be handled in this country, he's wrong about Afghanistan, he's wrong about mountain top removal, and he's wrong about any number of other issues . . .

I still like him, though, and think that it's our responsibility to educate him in areas where he either has a blind spot (e.g. 9/11) or where he is too in bed with the corporate powers that be (e.g. healthcare, etc.) . . .

I believe Obama's heart is in the right place, but he's allowing his pragmatism to win out over his idealism . . . it's the same kind of short-term thinking that got our banks and many corporations into such a god-awful mess . . . he needs to do some long-term thinking to see where his policies will lead us in five, ten, twenty years, and then adjust that thinking accordingly . . .

17. Who's facts? And for what purpose?
What is truth?
Those who write the history have a way of creating facts out of fiction and mythology.
The President is a fool if he thinks he is in possession of the FACTS.
The truth is extracted from the press of questions and debate.
To close the subject to inquiry is to acknowledge the facts are false.

MR. ZARDARI: You all have been there for eight years, you tell me. You lost him in Tora Bora, I didn't. I was in prison. In fact, my wife warned America about Osama bin Laden in '89. She rung up senior Bush and asked, asked of him, "Are you destabilizing my government?" Because he paid the then opposition $10 million to do--overthrow the first woman elected in Islamic country. So we knew that he was your operator.

29. 911 was a media event
hell, there might not even have existed a W.T. Centre for all we know! And who really cares anyway? The main issue was/is how did the story get sold, by whom, and to whose benefit? The reactionary rightwing MIC is the quickest villain in this particular re- telling; seeing as how they controlled the 'mainstream media' and, for example, kept the 4 ongoing air defense exercises (northern vigilance, guardian, etc) that took place during 911 (thus paralysing the nation's air defenses!) out of the main news successfully, so much so it's rarely mentioned even today on left websites like DU!
Taking candy from a baby (robbing the public) is easy, so easy, it's almost impossible to prevent in a working 'Democracy' (better known as a 'Hypocrisy')
everything else is blahblahblah

32. I've thought about this question long and hard:
what would I do if I were in the president's shoes?

Would I throw the doors wide open to a new, impartial investigation? Go all out in a bid for transparency in government?

And what if the results of that investigation were to shake the world, psychologically speaking, to its deepest foundations? Would I want to trigger the collapse of the world-view of millions of people all around? What about the lawsuits these millions might bring in their fight for reparations?

Would I risk unleashing this kind of brainstorm at a time when the country is already economically on the brink of a depression?

I must say, it is likely that I would hold my tongue and plod on, steadfastly trying to stabilize a very fragile status quo. I'm almost certain this would be the most prudent course for the nation, though very far from what I would ideally want.

As president, I feel a duty to be a pragmatist and compromise, even if my vision of what I would love to see goes far beyond what is possible to implement at this point.

and none of them are up to us to make.

You say,"The right thing to do is the right thing to do."

The "right thing" according to whom?

Let's face it, we are helpless in this case, spectators with very little influence on what the Obama admin decides in this and every other vital issue.

As for rotting and sinking into corporate fascism because of lack of bravery - yeah, that's been going on for decades. And we're sunk. I actually have hopes that we might be able to extricate ourselves somewhat from the morass and keep the parasites in check to a greater extent than in the past 8 years. I have no illusions that there won't be predatory capitalists ensconced in power positions at any time in our future.

But like I said, I have no illusions.

38. You are trying to start a brushfire where none exists.
He was talking about the CT theories floating around the ME (and here as well) disputing the perpetrators of 9/11.

He merely listed the facts that did not preclude the incompetence and wink-wink of the Bush Administration allowing it to happen. It was the 9/11 Commission that whitewashed the facts and they didn't bother to complete the second half of the inquiry pertaining to how the Bush Admin misused intelligence.

Most progressives think the 9/11 Commission was bullshit, including me. But that is entirely separate from what Obama said in this speech. He pinned it squarely on al Queda where the blame belongs.

I love Rachel but she and you got this entirely wrong.

I completely agree that there are a hundred unanswered questions and that there exist some pretty outrageously suspicious things that remain unexplained. The most fascinating thing IMO is the collapse of the buildings that engineers feel was impossible by virtue of the crash and fire alone, building #7 (edited to correct # of building) the most suspicious of all. Another red flag is how quickly the names of the perpetrators were available to the media, reminiscent of JFK's murder.

But that doesn't detract from the point Obama made, that al Queda was the perpetrator. They admitted it and evidence reveals they were most certainly involved. That does not preclude the theory that they had some help from those wishing to exploit the tragedy.

In Obama's sweeping speech about Israel and Palestine, he was dispelling the ME myth that Israel was responsible for 9/11. 9/11 is used as a pawn by all kinds of parties, not just the wingnuts here in America.

We agree that the 9/11 Commission was epic bullshit. We disagree that Obama said what you (and Rachel) said he said.

how can we be sure we are being told the truth on that? Things can easily be made up as we have seen.

Please link to the "evidence" that al Qaeda was guilty. There were items like I think a couple of miraculously surviving passports as some of the only remains from the airliners.

What makes you certain that al Qaeda was responsible in light of the many other discrepencies, fabrications and lies?
