1. Hmmm. This was a rather unsatisfying interview
It would be nice to know - to have some real data that didn't have to be qualified a bunch of ways and studied UK vs. Canada vs. USA health outcomes. I know about life expectancy. Why would cancer survival rates be lower in the UK? Do they not also screen over there? The self-examination thing seems hard to believe as the true answer.

4. From personal experience....
.... I know smoking rates in Britain are far higher.

That's one probable cause.... I'm sure there are several more, besides.

3. Typical Republican!
She quotes figures that support her position from the Lewin Group as proof of her position. She claims that a big part of the reason British breast cancer survival rates is people choosing treatment other than the recommended treatment.

When the numbers don't agree with her... that's ohhh ,, if you want to use statistics! And of course ends with .. we want women to have a choice! (As if she were not trying to limit their choices)

Here's a 'story' for her.. to match up to her 'all the stories (she chooses to listen to) out of England

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. If you don't know what that is, it's the dissolve your joints before it kills you arthritis, not the achy knees in the morning arthritis.

From the day I first knew something was very wrong in my body to the day that a qualified medical profession said 'you have rheumatoid arthritis, and this is what we're going to do about it' was more than two years. Most of that time was spent waiting for... the ONLY specialist my really good insurance would approve in this town (actual the next town over, but not too far).

Yes, I'd have been really happy to be in England and have to wait 'weeks and weeks' for an appointment with one of a small number of specialists!

7. This
This is what the Obama administration should be putting out there. The doomsayers that are crying about how you'd only get treatment if a beaurocrat approved it are ignoring the fact that this is what happens now! And on top of that, a lot of doctors are only signed up with certain insurance companies. Someone really needs to point out what the actual conditions are on the ground right now, because that's the best argument for health care reform one could ask for.

5. There's no one size fits all answer to that one, teach!
There are layers of conditioning in play.

First, you have the envy that advertising uses to stir up a market and how it has contributed to what a status hungry, self serving and shallow society the bulk of us have become. I think that kind of dynamic has spilled over into how we interact socially. That the idea of a level playing field is a threat to their perception of being more accomplished or superior.

That's one possible root on a mangled piece of plant life. The intertwining of special interest money molding the message and in control of the compliant crew of conduits who can't find the courage to do the people's business without consideration for how they might be otherwise compensated.

That's tag 2U.

6. Because they are bought and paid for by the insurance lobby - and they are evil
E V I L - you can see it in many of their faces - that or "the crazy". Also, the people who vote for them.. well.. not necessarily known to be the brightest bunch..
