1. Just show the video already...
and give the commentary afterwards.

2. Ha, ha...you couldn't wait 37 seconds?
And I thought the line about everyone having short attention spans was overblown.

;)

3. OK, I watched it..
Freaking outrageous, and the cop should be put in jail, but I don't understand the need to lie and say that he was about to tuck in his shirt when he was clearly ignoring the cop. Don't think for a second that justifies anything. The cop should just write down that the kid violated the uniform code or whatever it is and he could be punished later.

19. Not for nothing,
but maybe, just maybe, he is NOT lying. Can you read minds? If so, you should take your show on the road, if not, spare us your "insights". Know one but that kid knows what he was about to do and we don't even know how the cop was speaking to him about his f8cking shirt not being tucked in. Would you take umbrage to an obnoxious* request before complying?

*obnoxious in tone, that is

4. i can see no justification for this cop whatsoever
one hesitates to come to conclusions solely based on one side and the video, but i can see no reason to doubt that this cop is out of control and just blatantly assaulted the kid

6. yeah..
and even if there was some justification, which there wasn't, there are endless ways to immobilize someone in a "safer" manner. That is, various holds and take-downs that don't involve simply beating on someone and throwing them into lockers where head trauma could easily be the result.

I understand that in some tough schools you will need a cop who is big and tough, as opposed to the lady hall monitor types where I went to school, but they also need to be well trained and level-headed enough to know that they are not there to open up a can of whoop-ass on everyone.

7. fwiw, these kind of restraints
Edited on Fri Oct-09-09 01:19 PM by paulsby
are not illegal in my state. in one case where my partner and i were wrestling with a resistant warrant suspect, and he was face down with us on top of him, he stopped breathing. scared the crap out of me. he was literally purple. he recovered, but it definitely put the fear of god into me.

regardless of whether those particular force techniques used in this case were justified GIVEN sufficient reason (like making an arrest on a resistant subject), apparently all the cop had here was a violation of school policy. cops can't enforce school policy with use of force in the same way they can to make an arrest, and i have heard no justification for this to be an arrest. iow, did the cop have at least reasonable suspicion (enough to physically detain) or PC (enough to arrest) the kid?

9. "resisting arrest"
Oh wait, you would have to be told you are under arrest to be "resisting arrest", otherwise that flimsy catch-all that is used all the time won't hold water.

16. not me
try reading my post. i didn't defend the cop in this case. i said based on what i see in the video and the victim interview, it appears he assaulted the kid.

i also gave an anecdote about a time my partner and i were wrestling with a guy with a similar face down type restraint, and he stopped breathing.

as i said, it appears to be an egregious use of excessive force and an assault.

based on the fact pattern as it appears.

10. amen, This man should not be enforcing dress code anyway. that is for the
teacher or principal. Why are there cops walking the halls anyway??? I can see them on the entries and checking who goes in and out but not dress code in the school.

15. Nobody will touch big BUBBA cop naked so he's frustrated & beats on small black boys for release
f*cking disgusting.... I hope he's convicted of assault, and everything else they can think of.

This "cop" needs stripped of his dignity and forced to apology to the young man.
