Keith shows the full clip of Jon Stewart slamming him for his comments about Brown and takes it like a gentleman. Personally, what Keith said about Brown doesn't diminish my respect for him one iota.

22. Sometimes we all
get carried away with passion, especially over politics. K.O., I've always enjoyed your show and I never considered that maybe you were too harsh. When I hear (not often) the "right wing pundits", they are usually much more vehement than you are. I don't want to lose the battle, especially the war against neo-conservatism, but maybe if you don't tone down the rhetoric, you will be considered a left wing Rush. Not to me....

9. Keith had the courage to call out the hypocrites and the crooks when no one else
nearly everyone else was silent. Jon Stewart was one of the few who also stood up for what was right and unmasked the terrible goings on.

So, I thank both of them for being out there when it was tough.

Guantanamo is still open. Torturers are still running around free. We still rendition people.

Terrorists haven't given up yet. Our privacy even less respected than in the past.

Our economy is a wreck. Many of us have lost our jobs. Many have lost their homes.

There is no such thing as hyperbole in expressing anger at what has happened.

The last thing we need is for Jon Stewart to pick on one of the few in the media who speaks truth to power.

There are so many other people to ridicule. Why Olbermann?

17. It was a really good exchange ...
highlights why our good guys ARE the good guys ...

KO is SPOT on with content 99 percent of the time, but he got loose with the "fact" in his statments about Brown, he did the intellectually corrupt right wing BS of tagging someone based on paper thin BS - he is a sexist because someone yelled something crass about Coakley at a rally and he did not refute it?

Man, I HATE when right wingers do that kind of crap ... BO is a scumbag america hater because Wright went into one of his half deranged rants during his sermons when BO was there?

THIS is what differentiate our side v their side, operating under the facts, and in this FINE exchange, two collegues acknowledging one another while one reminding the other that we are right because we operate from the high ground ...

Difference on the other side is when one of their mouthpieces goes overboard (which is all of the time, frankly) the double down on it ...

Sean, so you called BO a muslim america hating terrorist loving satanist communist, I agree totally, please elaborate more ...

37. We Expect More of KO
Edited on Sat Jan-23-10 10:30 AM by iamjoy
Keith Olbermann must be held to a higher standard. At the end of his bit, Stewart said that kind of childish name calling was what he should do, not Olbermann. Subtext: Olbermann, you're better than this. We need you to be better than this.

Watch Countdown and hear the truth from KO. Get mad and maybe do something about it. Watch The Daily Show and laugh at the same stuff that made you angry a few hours ago. That's good because if you really let it get to you, you'd go nuts. So laugh, but don't forget to do something about it

Stewart spends plenty of time calling out the right wing idiots. If we like The Daily Show because it tells the truth, we have to expect that when the left wing messes up they'll get called on it too.

50. I imagine Jon wouldn't want to see Keith...
... ceding the high ground, or being SEEN to cede the high ground, via an over-reliance on hyperbole and name-calling, which would reduce his effectiveness as a truth-teller. I got the impression they both see themselves as being on the same team.

Keith was certainly was right on a few points and he grossly exaggerated others. Bottom line, again, he's better than that.

Keith doesn't need to channel Limbaugh save with a liberal slant.

Good thing too, considering all the things they've been wrong about in the last few centuries! They could end up doing nothing but admitting all day long. It's much better for them to promote new sins than to admit to the old ones.

41. Coddled the right wingers?
Have you ever seen his domination of Jim Cramer or the time he had the Obama is a muslim death panel lady on, not Sarah Palin but the one that brought the healthcare bill and couldnt show him where it said any of the things she said it did. Or when he had John Yoo on and held his feet to the fire over the torture memos. I mean he does comedy so he isnt as intense as an actual reporter should be but he is more of a liberal than a centrist. Colbert is great too though. I love it how conservatives dont get his show and think he is really a neo-con then he makes fun of them to their faces. Especially love his correspondents dinner roast.

Stewart "held him to the fire," really? LOL

Jon Stewart is a comedian in a comedy show, the fact that we expect comedians to be the preservers of truth makes me believe that the discourse in this country has devolved to such level, that simply paying attention to it rots brains cells.

Stewart is a nice guy, but I don't expect him to be the water carrier of liberal message. SImply because he is not a liberal, he may be a normal moderate who ain't too bat shit insane, and that is a good thing. However, let's not forget for example that he allows people like Bill Kristol free reign in his show.

52. John Stewart coddled the right wingers? Hahahaha,
I was in a car two days ago with two right wingers who think that Colbert is one of them. I asked them if they realized that he was doing satire...... "Oh, he's for real! I read his book and he is really...blah blah blah."

I chose not to enlighten them further. They wouldn't have believed me anyway.

By the way, I love John Stewart and Steven Colbert. Keith Olbermann too. Each is a gift in in his own way.

21. How rare is it for an individual to say, before the nation...
"you know what, you were right, I have been a little over the top lately."

That, is the sign of a person that realizes he is a human being.

KO, has just moved up in my book. He and Rachel are the only 2 I've seen over the past 20 years that have been earthbound and conciliatory when necessary.

Where can I get a job like that?

I am AMAZED that so many people here took this as a straightforward and serious issue.

These guys were pulling your credulous legs! While creating a positive feedback loop to bring audience attention to them both!

They are performers, folks. Drama queens, and I don't mean it as an insult. They are a refreshing change from the plastic smiling, Ken and Barbie types that fill the media.

Think Marx Brothers. With two programs in the same season.

And they said vaudeville was dead. We may be seeing a revival, and about time, too!

44. Meh
I thought it was really classy for Keith to take it like a gentleman. I personally do think calling any woman a mashed up bag of anything shouldn't happen or be encouraged. One could spend months complaining about Palin, Bachmann, or Malkin legitimately, easily without resorting to some of the names Keith uses. With his vocabulary, it wouldn't have taken much effort, either. I think it took a lot of class and humility to go...okay, you got me. You're right. On this one thing, I don't care about the political persuasion. I was also unimpressed with that little weasel Specter telling Bachmann to act like a lady. I may have also wanted her to shut up, but he came across a little bit like...look girlie, can't you tell a man is talking. Okay...maybe, I was reading him wrong. But, that just bugged me.

I agree with what he said about Brown 100%, but for a man who claims Murrow as his inspiration, he's been sounding like an OTT left version of O'Reilly. It's not what he's saying, which I usually agree with in sentiment. It's the delivery, sarcasm to that degree has no place in a serious news program. And then he agrees and apologizes which totally redeems his behavior. You'd damned sure never hear that from O'Reilly!

60. What we need now is for Stephen Colbert to call them both out.
It will be interesting to see if Keith moderates himself now.

62. When will KO be on the Daily Show?
Let's hope he does go there.

And when was the last time Hannity, Beck, or O'Reilly ever done something like what Olby just did on Friday night?

65. Guess what? It's all corporate theater. Give some thought to paying attention to reality

That is, if you don't find it too depressing or mentally taxing.

70. Thanks for posting this.
My DVR cut off the last few seconds, so I had missed the punchline.

Jon and Keith are treasures. I love them both equally. Okay, I lied; I love Keith more.

71. These guys are incredible
Keith says what we all wish would have been said long ago. I sure hope he doesn't slow down. It's refreshing to hear the truth, even if it's ugly. We all love Jon. Wondering if he's attacking Rachel and Keith to keep his claim of non-partisan more credible. The one on Rachel was just strange. But this one on Keith at least had the Stewart humor attached. Guess politics have to come into play here.
