Unqualified support for the Commander in Chief's decision to end this policy - and he does a good job of laying out all the parts of the structural issues that have to be changed - things like housing, and other benefits

1. Secretary Gates sounded like he was reading a speech written for him

He seemed to be reluctant to read it. He does not seem enthusiastic about treating gays and lesbians like everybody else. I'm listening to his voice and watching his body language so it's my subjective sense. He just droned on very mechanically.

Based on what I hear here, I do not think that gays and lesbians will have equal opportunity in the military as long as Secretary Gates is in charge. I expect him to schlemiel this effort.

2. It's the demeanor I would expect from the Secretary of Defense

I think it would be unusual if he started his speech with a dance number and did 'jazz hands' to punctuate his sentences, hillarious, but unusual.
