Nearly 3,000 pages of e-mails that Todd Palin exchanged with state officials, which were released to msnbc.com and NBC News by the state of Alaska under its public records law, draw a picture of a Palin administration where the governor's husband got involved in a judicial appointment, monitored contract negotiations with public employee unions, received background checks on a corporate CEO, added his approval or disapproval to state board appointments and passed financial information marked "confidential" from his oil company employer to a state attorney.

You can read all those e-mails in msnbc.com's searchable online archive, created in cooperation with a legal services company, Crivella West. We're still going through the documents, and invite readers at msnbc.com to search for themselves, connect the dots with public issues, and send us an e-mail with your own analysis.

While 1,200 separate e-mails were released this week, 243 others were withheld by the state under a claim that executive privilege extends to Todd Palin as an unpaid adviser to the government. Still, just the subject lines of those e-mails provide a glimpse of the ways the Palins divvied up their responsibilities when she became governor in December 2006, less than two years before Republican Sen. John McCain pulled her onto the national political stage by nominating her as his vice presidential candidate.

The 243 still-secret e-mails between Todd Palin and senior officials reach into countless areas of state government and politics: potential board appointees, constituent complaints, use of the state jet, oil and gas production, marine regulation, gas pipeline bids, postsecondary education, wildfires, native Alaskan issues, the state effort to save the Matanuska Maid dairy, budget planning, potential budget vetoes, oil shale leasing, "strategy for responding to media allegations," staffing at the mansion, pier diem payments to the governor for travel, "strategy for responding to questions about pregnancy," potential cuts to the governor's staff, "confidentiality issues," Bureau of Land Management land transfers and trespass issues and requests to the U.S. transportation secretary.

Background In September of 2008 Aram Roston, then at NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, made several public records requests to the governor of the State of Alaska. Roston sought e-mails dated from January 2007 to September 24, 2008 that were copied to, directed to, or from Todd Palin and seven members of then Governor Sarah Palin’s staff, including Governor Palin. The records provided by the governor’s office consist of 2,544 pages and were subsequently provided to Bill Dedman, an MSNBC.com investigative reporter. In collaboration with MSNBC.com, Crivella West Incorporated, a knowledge discovery company, digitized, analyzed and arranged this Palin e-mail collection. Further, Crivella West categorized these documents into Special Collections for easy review. Bill Dedman detailed his findings from this production in an article published on February 5, 2010 which you can find at: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35238034/ns/politics/
The State of Alaska’s Response to Roston’s requests, as well as a listing of records the governor’s office withheld or redacted, can be accessed on the links below.

The Engineered Special Collections were created using an automated process around two topics: emotive language and contracts. The Emotive language collections contain records with language indicating strong emotion. The Contract collections contain language concerning contracts with the State of Alaska.

The Researched Special Collections were developed and created by Crivella West personnel, who reviewed and identified topics of interest in the records. These topics included such things as travel expenses, corporate interactions with the State of Alaska, and hiring and termination decisions.

These Special Collections can be accessed by clicking on the Special Collections link under Public Access Collections.

1. Anybody remember this bumper sticker?
"I Don't Trust President Clinton- Or Her Husband"

I remember seeing a couple of those even before he was sworn in. But it seems it's OK when it's a Republican getting input from a spouse. It was OK when Nancy Raygun called the shots for Ronnie based on his horoscope, and it's OK today when Todd gives Sarah Palin advice on appointments that could potentially help his business. Yet somehow, mysteriously, it's a different story with the Clintons for some reason.... Hmmm.

3. So-called Double Standard
Pillow talk between man and wife regarding politics and occurrences going on in our nation is absolutely a common and okay situation. When it comes in the form of paper and directed as "you will act on this" situation it cannot be accepted and is definitely a mis-use of power.

2. What hypocrisy.
It's all OK if you're a republican. Todd ran Alaska until the Grifter resigned. republicans don't care. What hypocrites they are. I guess it's all part of the sickness that is conservatism.
