11. I'm Jealous!
I wish I lived in the state Washington...Or at least had a Governor of her caliber!

I live in Georgia...I was born here and my wife wants to be near family or I would have been gone years ago! Roy Barnes is running again but I seriously doubt he will be able to win in this BRAIN DEAD state!

2. Someone should edit this down to a 1 minute clip

and bump the audio up some.

it would be a GREAT thing to pass around to show Repugs what the cost of their recalcitrance is going to be.

It would have been the diplomatic thing to do, but McKenna doesn't care about that.

7. Does a state AG have a duty to consult with the governor?
Can a state AG instigate legal process based on the idea that something is illegal or unconstitutional against the citizens of the state without consulting the governor? Anyone know more about this?

Elliot Richardson resigned rather than do what Nixon asked of him, firing the special prosecutor.

Still not clear to me.

"The Washington State Attorney General’s Office is made up of 27 legal divisions located in 12 different cities across the state. The office consists of more than 500 attorneys and more than 600 other employees providing legal services to more than 230 state agencies, boards and commissions.

According to state law, the Office of the Attorney General is responsible for representing the state of Washington, its officials, departments, boards, commissions, and agencies. Its specific duties include:

Representing the State of Washington before the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals and trial courts in all cases that involve the state’s interest.

Advising the Governor, members of the Legislature and other state officers on legal issues, and, when requested, giving written opinions on constitutional or legal questions.

...

The Attorney General’s Office does not launch criminal investigations without a request from a county prosecutor or the Governor."

Edited on Tue Mar-23-10 08:22 PM by Hissyspit
He's talking about it live right now.

Says it's a total waste of taxpayer money.

Corbett is too good a lawyer to be involved with this. The federal government has absolute right to do certain things above and beyond states.

"I think the tactic Republicans are taking... mean-spirited, irrational... not going to work." Do they really want to repeal pre-existing conditions in bill, etc.

Protecting the public by upholding the Consumer Protection Act, enforcing laws against anti-competitive business practices, representing the public interest in utility matters, and protecting the environment as Counsel for the Environment in the siting of energy facilities.

26. Washington is a blue state right?
Where does the Attorney General get off filing a lawsuit like this? Who does he think he's fighting for? AG's get elected don't they? Geez, I guess now the Republicans have latched onto the HC mandate and we'll be hearing the mantra for the next 3 years that it's unconstitutional.

29. Quite blue. But outside of Seattle metro area, we're basically a hick state...
And as the wealthier Microsoft crowd gets older, republicans have been getting more weight lately.

Seattle still dominates electorally, but some things are getting tight vote-wise.

49. The AG represents the People in issues like this.
WA is a blue state, mostly because of King County only. (Greater Seattle Area) Most of the rest of the state is red. I'm in King County but on the east side, and my neighbors are all red. All of them.

McKenna has been soundly re-elected for some time, and will be running against Gregiore in the next election for the governor seat. If you thought the Dino Rossi / Christine Gregiore race was tight, the next election is going to be some fireworks show.

I've been very pleased with Gregiore's performance in office, but I honestly think she is going to lose.

Proud to be a resident of Washington. Pretty much grew up across the Colombia River, in Portland, Oregon; and I've looked at Washington as a red neck state. But this lady makes me proud! She has my support 110%, and if this is who she is, she has my vote and political support in the future.
