Colbert is a Democrat:
Although by his own account he was not particularly political before joining the cast of The Daily Show, Colbert is a self-described Democrat. He is also a practicing Roman Catholic and a Sunday school teacher. He lives in Montclair, New Jersey with his wife Evelyn McGee-Colbert who appeared with him in an episode of Strangers with Candy as his mother. She had an uncredited cameo as a nurse in the series pilot, as well. The couple has three children: Madeline, Peter, and John — all of whom have appeared on The Daily Show.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Colbertand Stewart, on the other had, describes himself as a Whig:
Stewart attracted media attention as a result of a television exchange with former CNN personality Tucker Carlson on Crossfire on October 15, 2004. Stewart criticized the state of television journalism and pleaded with the show's hosts to "stop hurting America", and referred to both Carlson and co-host Paul Begala as "partisan hacks" (when asked about his own political affiliations, Stewart typically responds that he is a Whig). This exchange became one of the most widely viewed Internet videos to date, and a topic of much media discussion.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_StewartIf anyone in Congress makes a fool of themselves, I believe they are mature enough to realize that Colbert, Stewart, Letterman and the like, will make fun of them. They just have had sooo much to work with the past six years, I only hope that the bright future we see with the Democrats, they will still have careers.
Side Note: Colbert had a great interview on 60 Minutes back in August:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/04/27/60minutes/main1553506.shtmlHis most telling and honest exchange I thought was this:
At home, Colbert is a doting father who makes sure his kids do not see the other Colbert — he only rarely let his kids watch the show.
"It's just like a pure silly thing. But you know, I truck in insincerity. With a very straight face, I say things I don't believe," Colbert tells Safer.
"Kids can't understand irony or sarcasm, and I don't want them to perceive me as insincere," Colbert says, "Because one night, I'll be putting them to bed and I'll say ... 'I love you, honey.' And they'll say, 'I get it. Very dry, Dad. That's good stuff,'" jokes Colbert.
