3. "I didn't realize she was such a psycho"
To say the least.

And for reasons I can't figure out, I am incredibly attracted to Judge Judy.

"Here comes the judge"!

7. That show is bizarre
Over here in Europe it's often part of the daytime TV menu so that people who are sitting around bored all day has something to look at.

I just don't understand why it's allowed to make TV entertainment of a courtroom. Is it for real?

12. I think their court cases are real but they get paid to be on the show.

In this country we celebrate the legal system. I hate it myself. But what can you do.

18. This is a small claims court turned into daytime TV,
Not sure of the structure(s) in Europe, but here Small Claims Court ajudicates disputes involving relatively small amounts of money (~$500, but probably varies around the country, I'd have to research it).

This show and others like it recruit people from SCC. IIRC, legally speaking, the participants sign an arbitration agreement (where the TV judge acts as arbiter), and basically go through the same procedure as for SCC, except on camera and with the opening/ending interviews. They also get paid by the TV producers, which may be more than the sum in dispute, so enough people think "even if I lose I still come out ahead" that it keeps these shows in business.

It started off relatively benign on a show called "The Peoples Court", but like the rest of daytime TV, the ratings chase encouraged veriants with more "spectacle factor", and Judge Judy was one of the 'winners' in that contest.

8. I want to see a new TV court - CORPORATE COURT.....

In which the judge is constantly siding with the rich and crushing little people......

Now that would be interesting.

And novel.

Like, what judge would ever do THAT????????????

We need judges to destroy the non-rich and give corporations the right to buy elections.

And side with the oil industry.

13. both the defendent and the plaintiff are psychos
Obviously, miss "deliverance ministry" can't stand on her faith and deliver her own silly self out of a situation when the test came to her.

neither of them have the good sense god gave them to open up a can of 'act right'.

17. This is an example of what those who'll vote Republican are watching on TV
In fact, Judge Judy is of the same intellectual ilk as Fox News.
