3. Gogarty was saying this out of frustration and, probably, a realization that HIS party
(which was SUPPOSED to be left-of-center)has most likely made a politically fatal mistake in joining a governing coalition with the Fianna Fail(FF) party, an arrangement that obligated the Greens to give up all progressive principles and support FF's brutal austerity budgets, budgets that have had no effect other than to make the Irish recession far worse than it had to be.

It's highly unlikely that the Greens will have any representation in the next Dail. Their supporters won't forgive them for abandoning any support for social justice, while at the same time failing utterly to get FF even to commit to any meaningful environmental legislation. The Greens got played big time, and will almost certainly face severe electoral punishment for that.
