4. "My signature piece of legislation" HCR reform. Yet he thinks the public option wasn't worth
a fight-but making the purchase of a costly for profit product mandatory WAS. And he says that he cares about the welfare of the American people. Obama needs to play back this press conference to listen to himself. Lying to us and himself about what the American people want won't change the facts. The people wanted a public option, and they DON'T want tax cuts for the rich. Obama, you look like a damn fool.

11. The President made a good point...
The President made a good point when he said if we are so purist that fighting to get 100% of everything we want, means that nothing will ever get passed, that this is a terrible measure for us! He's right.

12. who is and was asking for 100%
Who's asking for 50/50?

such nonsense arguments in support of his cave don't wash any more.

13. That's silly
The public option wasn't a purist position in any sense of the words. I seem to recall even some Illinois Democratic Senator saying that a single-payer system would be the ideal.

15. But that is not the issue. Getting 100% of what we want is not even
on the table. The problem is that the "compromises" are one-sided.

for example, Obama's health care plan is essentially the adoption of an earlier Republican proposal. He didn't add much if anything.

And the first thing he should have negotiated was what to do about the debt ceiling.

Only after that ceiling was voted on should he have gone on to discuss the tax cuts.

Obama does not understand economics. He needs to have the humility to admit that fact and get some additional voices on his economic team who do understand these things.

Where is Elizabeth Warren when we need her?

And why doesn't Obama include Paul Krugman or Robert Reich or Galbraith on his team of rivals. Obama is not getting enough different opinions and is not considering and questioning all of them. He is not running a balanced presidency.

17. no , he didn't make a good point.
we wanted single payer, not a public option. Public option was a compromise.

8. There is hope - Limbaugh and Demint are opposed to the deal too!
They are upset that unemployment benefits are being extended - they wanted ALL the cuts but no extensions. Jim DeMint (head R nutbar) says he'll filibuster the deal as well for the same reasons!

If the extreme right feels this way, there could be an odd progressive - conservative majority on stopping this.

But I worry that if it goes down Obama will cave even more...

He doesn't even get it when the Beltway media spell it out for him.

Oh, no Chuck, the Republicans don't learn anything from how to get me to do what they want when I capitulate over... and over... and over...

Shit, if I ever get taken hostage, don't let Barack Obama be in charge of the negotiations, please.

Obama's message to Republicans: Whatever the issue of the day is, find a hostage and threaten to harm them.

18. the only way I can see this being a fight
is when this bill comes to his desk, he vetoes it and tells the thugs "yeah, I did it. Whatchoo gon' do about it, boo? You don't have the votes to override my veto, bitches"

Somehow, I just don't see that happening. Not with this guy. I truly do hope I'm proven wrong because I hate the thought that I voted for someone who has sold me out so completely.
