2. Obama has the ability to be combative, but he does not use it enough

And he seems to use that ability more in campaigns than in governing.

3. If he doesn't start using it in governing, he won't need to worry about the campaigns.

He'll either feed the base, or the base will throw him to the wolves. He knows what he's doing, he knows where this is taking him. He's an adult. he's making adult decisions, no matter how ridiculous they may seem to the people who voted for him. Politically, he'll reap the reward or pay the price and he'll have no one to thank or blame but himself.
