3. The Founding Fathers were purists. Is there something wrong
with that? I always laugh when I see that word. It so reveals where those who use it are coming from. The DLC has a list of words to use to try to shut down progressives. This was one of their early words. I was very sad to hear this president use it recently. It confirmed the fears that he is being influenced by the far rightwing of the democratic party.
You'd think they would have provided him with a new word though. That one has been around for years, discussed, debunked and basically known to be a clue to who you might be talking to.
9. You know, that's a different discussion, and one that has been
the subject of countless threads on DU. I'm not going to renew it here. The Deficit Commission is over. It did not get the votes needed to issue a report that would be submitted to Congress. It's done. It's over. No new ideas came from it. Everything in the draft report had already been discussed by others.
President Obama has not said a word about supporting any of the recommendations in that draft report that have anything to do with Social Security. Anyone who says he wants to cut SS is just projecting. If you'd like to discuss that subject, I suggest starting a new thread. Social Security was not part of that animation. It was never mentioned.
But we have to keep trying. How about Grayson or Sanders.....??? If nothing else they will keep the ideas alive by talking about them...until the next Progressive comes along. I don't think Obama is as progressive as he seemed during the campaign and I didn't get everything I wanted in the health care bill, but that is more the fault of the teabagger's than anyone else. Obama still deserves our support but I look at everything with a wary eye now.
