19. Unfortunately, that's not true.
A surprising number of people don't care.

More people would care than care today if there were images of him being tortured.

Some people will never care.

6. Again, the Prez could simply end this "treatment"
By fiat. Why is he allowing this kind of barbarism on his watch?

Who is in charge?

Want does he really want to do?

I think actions speak loudly, and inaction even more so.

8. Who's in charge?
The same people that were in charge under Bush. He can't even appoint his own defense secretary.

9. human rights are neither 'left" nor "right" issue
this is simply divide and conquer all over again

some of the most vocal critics of Manning's treatment are anti-war libertarians

and some of his biggest accusers are left-cover-granting corporatists like Vice President Biden

11. Look at the oath and think about it
I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

Manning is, at worst, unaware of the size of what he ALLEGEDLY released, but he is, at best, a prisoner of conscience. I think he acted out of conscience, if he did what they say he did, WHICH HAS NOT BEEN STATED IN AN INDICTMENT.

For reference, here also is the oath of office of the President of the United States:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. ”
I think Manning actually thought about his oath and acted on it.

Neither Bush Jr. nor Obama gave a rat's ass about his oath.

12. Not much of a defender, the lawyer.

From the Nazis at Faux; who expects better.

At worst this man should be able to have exercise in his cell whenever he feels like it. Missed by this defense attorney is that this clear torture is a fascist effort to get him to say what his torturers desperately need to hear.

Not allowed to exercise in his cell with the clear intent to deteriorate his body = torture and his captors know it.

Walking this man around in chains as long as he can hold up, with an emaciated body, ostensibly for an hour; is torture. Not allowing him to sleep except sporadically, being awoken every 5 minutes to answer = torture and his captors know it.

Keeping him in his cell 23 out of 24hrs = torture and his torturers know it.

Not allowing his keepers to even talk to him and severely limiting his visitors = torture and his captors know it.

They are clearly trying to break him, without a care for his well being, and I am betting the order for this treatment is coming from the top rungs of Government, State Dpt, Justice WH.

They need to get him to lie about Julian so they can nail him, with or without a trial; then Manning too is expendable.

13. Unrec'd for asking a question that no one should ask in this country.
Considering that all of our laws forbid torture, it is incredible that anyone would even ask that question.

and he continues to work that way. This former Defense Dept hack is wrong, of course.

17. So now America is Pro Torture too?
I don't think I like the new and improved America where it is not only O.K. to torture people but to invade sovereign countries and kill innocent civilians including women and children as well.

18. Incredible. Is he honestly suggesting that Manning is not being tortured
because this is against some military code? And, go to the military justice to lodge a complaint against a crime sanctioned by the military? Idiot, and idiots who believe him.
