Mary Landrieu (D) - Louisiana - 1997

Susan Collins (R) - Maine - 1997

Blanche Lincoln (D) - Arkansas - 1999

Debbie Stabenow (D) - Michigan - 2001

Maria Cantwell (D) - Washington - 2001

Lisa Murkowski (R) - Alaska - 2002

Amy Klobuchar (D) - Minnesota - 2007

Claire McCaskill (D) - Missouri - 2007

Kay Hagan (D) - North Carolina - 2009

Jeanne Shaheen (D) - New Hampshire - 2009

Kirsten Gillibrand - (D) - New York - 2009

From Wikipedia.org
Note:
In January 2011, the number will stay at 17.
Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) will leave the Senate and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) will join.

Also,
Since January 2009, there are 17 women serving in the 100-person body (an all-time high), including freshmen senators. For three states, California, Washington and Maine, both senators are women (New Hampshire will soon have two women senators as well, following the installation of Republican Kelly Ayotte in January). California's current two senators (Boxer and Feinstein) are the first two women to be elected to the U.S. Senate in the same election (in 1992) from the same state.

2. She's a little spitfire! I've always voted for her.
Well...I voted for her for Senate. I didn't live in her Congressional district.

3. We've come a long way baby, BUT...
Considering that we females make up 50% of the US population but we make up only 17% of the senate - we still have a long way to go!

p.s. It is interesting that of the 17 female senators 13 are Democrats and three of the four Republicans often vote with the Democrats. It makes me sad, being a Texan, that Kay Bailey Hutchison is so far to the right as she is and doesn't vote in the best interests of our gender.

4. I love Barbara! She was my attorney once, in a divorce in my home town. I was grateful she was a
feminist because I needed that kind of support. Thank you
Barbara... I am sure you will never remember me, it was soooo
long ago. All is as well as it can be, given this economy.

12. You're right. I recommended this when it was first posted,
But never got around to posting on it. My senator is last on that list, but I'm hoping that she remains with us for many years to come. She's not only smart, well spoken and hard working, but she's on the right side of most issues and I've supported her since 2006, when she became my congresswoman, here in NY-20... :D :patriot:
