Why is WikiLeaks releasing documents from the U.S. government, when there is no shortage of corruption elsewhere in the world? Editor-in-chief Julian Assange regards it as an issue of trust, explaining that he considers it the website's responsibility to publish any classified information likely to have a significant impact -- regardless of diplomatic origins.

-----

Following the leak by whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks of almost 400,000 secret US army field reports from the Iraq war between 2004 and 2009, tune in to hear Julian Assange at the Frontline Club in conversation with one of the most famous whistle blowers in history, Daniel Ellsberg, who was responsible for the leak of the Pentagon Papers in 1971.

Julian Assange is an Australian journalist, programmer and Internet activist, best known for his involvement with Wikileaks, a whistleblower website.

Daniel Ellsberg is a political commentator and activist. A former U.S. military analyst employed by the RAND Corporation, Ellsberg sparked a national controversy in 1971 when he released the Pentagon Papers to the New York Times.

1. I wonder if the host of the show already knew that Wikileaks
has posted material from 'dark corners of the world' and simply wanted to let him explain for the audience what they have done in the past? His response 'like Iraq, like Afghanistan'? was perfect and she did allow him to talk uninterrupted.

Thank you for the link to the complete video. He makes perfect sense in referencing Madison and the principle of having a free press without which you cannot have a democracy.

allowed him to give a very good response and say an awful lot. Good video.

3. Amy Goodman does a good interview
She allows her guests to finish a thought. One reason I enjoy Democracy Now..the talking over and interrupting which is standard for US MSM is so rude, it is hard to watch.
