There is nothing like waking up to a nice morning, smelling that fresh coffee brewing, and as you get ready for work hearing some rich asshole on TV talk about how good the poor have it and the only way to balance the budget is to cut benefits for them while giving him and his rich buddies a tax cut.

Responding to a comment by Harold Ford about how people like medicare Joe Scarborough says:

"I like chocolate cake. You know what else I like? I like steak. And I don't just like the lean steak, I like the steak that has the fat...and I will actually carve off the fat first and eat it and watch it go down my face. Now, I would like to have that every lunch and dinner. I would love to wake up with chocolate cake and wash it down with a big milkshake.

My point is simple. I like medicare too. I like sunshine...I like a lot of things. But you can't have sunshine everyday."

Yeah, you tell them Joe! Those damn spoiled social security and medicare recipients. How dare they expect that average benefit of $1,000 a month to live on and how dare they expect to get healthcare once they turn 65?

He went on to say that this country is going bankrupt and went on a tirade against Harold Ford that he must tell the truth. The truth according to Scarborough? You can't raise taxes, the only way to balance the budget is to cut entitlements.

At no point during this entire conversation did anyone on the panel point out to this asshole that the majority of our debt for the next decade will not be because of social security or medicare, it will be because of the tax cuts Bush gave to people like him. In fact Scarborough said all you need to do is show a chart and Americans will understand that medicare and social security must be cut. That would have been a great time to show this chart:

Or how about this chart that shows if you want to save social security all you have to do is raise the payroll tax cap which in the end would create a social security surplus:

But at no time during this conversation was any of this mentioned. Not even the Democrat on the panel was able to point any of these simple facts out as he was being beat over the head with the idea that we must cut benefits for poor people so that taxes on the rich are not raised.

But the sun in metaphor can shine every day. Odd he said that, I just posted this song a couple days ago.

I see why he said that They changed a song on YouTube

This song is the original posted version.

Matilda cake eating scene. There may be some irony in there somewhere. And there is some humor.

:)

Not sure if that is good or bad in metaphor, but many societies take care of the health of their citizens.

2. So the elderly should NOT eat cake?
Just when I wonder if I've been too harsh in my assessment of him.

18. You don't eat much steak on Social Security. You can be sure of that.

Social Security and Medicare provide most of the elderly with a sausage and beans income.

People like Joe Scarborough earn salaries way above average. They pay the maximum. When they receive their reports on their estimated Social Security benefits, it looks like a decent amount of money if not quite a bit of money.

But they forget that they are due to receive benefits that are enormous compared to the benefits most seniors get.

Joe Scarborough is out of touch with real Americans. He has no idea how the rest of us really live. He cavorts with the high and mighty. That's how he sees his job. You never see normal people on his show -- only the important, wealthy folks. And he never seems to get out of his studio.

Compare his show to those of Rachel Maddow or Ed Schultz or others. They mix with real people at least every once in a while. Joe Scarborough lives in an ivory tower of power.

in his office and then having his rich buddies help him cover it up
If he was in jail he could get cake and steak everyday from the government...........

6. So Medicare and Social Security
are luxuries in his mind? He better get the memo that they are survival. The reason we have these programs are because insurance companies refused to insure the elderly, leaving them to die and there weren't very many corps that had retirement plans until Unions got in. Well, there are very few retirement plans left again (unless you count 401ks, which are not good plans since they rely on the market) and they want to eliminate medicare, so of course insurance companies will once again refuse to cover the elderly and they'll be dying again.

I love how they say they are saving Medicare for those under 55 and giving them more control over it. Right...

11. Another "pro-life" asshole who thinks that which allows the poor to survive is a luxury...
I am surprised he did not advocate within the same breath to use all that money for SS and Medicare to bomb abortion clinics to defend the sanctity of life... the elderly must do their part and pitch in this war to defend life!

13. Surprise, surprise
He was a Republican Rep of Florida back in the 90's.

And (according to Wikipedia) "...voted for the 'Medicare Preservation act of 1995,' which cut the projected growth of Medicare by $270 billion over ten years..."

19. At least until a certain age, Social Security reduces your payments
if you earn more than a certain income. So all this talk is just based on ignorance. It may be that over 70 you get your full benefits but I know someone in her 90s who still pays taxes on her income because she has pensions and income in addition to Social Security. And her Social Security payments are very small.

17. I don't believe the federal government
can balance its budget without cutting entitlements to the people who pay for them. I know it can and so do Scarborough and Ford. The difference is that Scarborough is a FOX Wall Street stooge and Ford is a DLC Wall Street stooge, and that is a distinction without a difference.
