2. I got rid of my lawn altogether.

No more turf grass - it's all shrubs and flowers and vegetables now. It's prettier and I don't have to mow it.

I decided 15 years ago that pouring $100/month in precious desert drinking water on a bunch of Bermuda grass for the sheer pleasure of mowing it once a week was completely insane, so I shut off the leaky irrigation system.

If you don't feed it, it doesn't grow. I was the first of many. It's been so dry this year I don't even have weeds to pull.

Flat patches of grass in front of suburban cracker box houses lined up in military formation is the height of ugly insanity.
