21. I can't imagine the tea baggers doing anything so wonderful.
I can imagine them drinking Beethoven's fifth but that's about it.

39. There's no talent there.
Why do you think all their favorite songs are about pickup trucks, dogs and the women who leave them?

For my part, I'm just going to start apologizing to all the Republics and teabaggers I meet from here on out by saying "I'm sorry that you have a tiny penis."

If any of you can come up with a better excuse for their behavior, I'm receptive, but I think that's the root cause... small dicks and the resulting anger.

4. Embrace each other now, you millions! The kiss is for the whole wide world!
Joy, o wondrous spark divine,
Daughter of Elysium,
Drunk with fire now we enter,
Heavenly one, your holy shrine.
Your magic powers join again
What fashion strictly did divide;
Brotherhood unites all men
Where your gentle wing's spread wide.

The man who's been so fortunate
To become the friend of a friend,
The man who has won a fair woman -
To the rejoicing let him add his voice.
The man who calls but a single soul
Somewhere in the world his own!
And he who never managed this -
Let him steal forth from our throng!

Joy is drunk by every creature
From Nature's fair and charming breast;
Every being, good or evil,
Follows in her rosy steps.
Kisses she gave to us, and vines,
And one good friend, tried in death;
The serpent she endowed with base desire
And the cherub stands before God.

Gladly as His suns do fly
Through the heavens' splendid plan,
Run now, brothers, your own course,
Joyful like a conquering hero

Embrace each other now, you millions!
The kiss is for the whole wide world!
Brothers - over the starry firmament
A beloved Father must surely dwell.

Do you come crashing down, you millions?
Do you sense the Creators presence, world?
Seek Him above the starry firmament,
For above the stars he surely dwells.

Rock on Spain...

Bravo Spain. The Occupy Wall Street idea originated in Spain and the General Assembly was taken from them. They have been occupying their city since May.

They have the highest youth unemployment in Europe, over 40%. Their futures stolen from them by a few evil, greedy people who still want more.

But seeing all the beautiful people around the globe today shows that the majority of people in the world are good, compassionate and caring. They want everyone to have access to health care. They care about the poor and the vulnerable We have heard nothing but cold, heartless rhetoric for years here, and they call it 'pragmatic'. I have come to hate that word.

Beautiful people of the World.

29. Well, they modeled the General Assembly method after Spain.
And learned from them about staying and not leaving. I was going to write an OP about that because Spain's movement has been very inspiring and they've been occupying since May.

Not surprising to see those numbers there, which I read were between 3 and 500,000, just in Madrid.

50. Yes, they are. Our leaders and theirs would like us to be enemies
but this movement shows that no matter where they are, all people have much more in common than not. Maybe this is the way we can bring to the world. Through the people, not the leaders.

42. A more faithful translation of Friedrich Schiller's Ode To Joy
sounds even more rousing to my German-born ears.

Be embraced, millions upon millions!
This kiss for the entire world...

Here's the text in both, German and English:

what happens when someone acknowledges America isn't perfect. they return the favor. Our economy is dependent on others and vice versa. This isn't a left movement nor a right movement. But it is a movement. Especially if I see signs for OWS with Don't tread on me in the back but they are in support of OWS. Likely former Tea Party members who woke up... Be like Dark City. Some people wake up from being brainwashed everyday. (not that they jump into a train when they do but....

7. More from AFP-
'MADRID (AFP) - Tens of thousands of people marched through the streets of Madrid on Saturday against government cutbacks to health and education spending, unemployment and corporate greed as part of a global day of protest.

The demonstration came exactly five months after Spain's so-called 'indignant' protest movement was born with a rally on May 15 that turned into a sprawling protest camp that occupied Madrid's central Puerta del Sol for weeks.

The 'indignant' movement then spread to Europe, finding strong backing in crisis-hit countries like Greece, and then worldwide - last month reaching the centre of global capitalism in Wall Street.

Five columns of marchers converged on Madrid's central Cibeles Square after walking for hours from different points across the city before proceeding to Puerta del Sol for assemblies scheduled to last throughout the night.

22. Absolutely!
When I was in college (back in the Stone Age), one English professor was a bit, shall we say... "dotty"? I, however, being a bit dotty myself, loved him. He spent a great amount of time talking about Marshall McLuhan and "the global village" that the world was becoming, and he talked a lot about evolving consciousness on a global scale and the wonders that could bring into being.

I've thought about my old professor a lot in recent months, and I hope he's still alive and well to see our evolving global consciousness taking root in global action.

There are great struggles ahead, because TPTB will never let go willingly or easily. So much could go wrong, but what we've seen happening around the world today will, I think, inspire many, help those on the front lines to be tenacious and strong, and keep all of us working unceasingly towards human dignity, freedom, equality, and social justice for everyone.

18. Hey, that sounds good. But we need to develop our solutions too.
The permaculture and restoration movements may have their moments now. I went to a rainbow gathering once, and wondered if there would be a tribe of wandering restoration nomads that worked redeveloping native edibles and being able to establish subsistence living.

Edited on Sun Oct-16-11 12:15 AM by ooglymoogly
The peoples of the world united against the tyranny of fascist bully's who have usurped the governments all over the world and stolen our resources...now trying to enslave us all by keeping us scared and divided.

Resources that nature gave to us all.

United we stand invincible.

Divided we fail.

Either someone is playing a record, or there is a small live chorus, singing in German, being broadcast (live?) with what sounds like a fife accompaniment. Still, it is very lovely.

stadium full of people also broke into the "Ode to Joy" in the Beatles movie Help? The song begins at .39 with the Beatles and a few others singing, and the football stadium full of people are singing starting at 1.06.

48. There's a wonderful German word for the noble musical themes of Beethoven...
... that is, themes such as the 9th Symphony's "Ode to Joy," which seem to convey all the majesty and pathos of the human struggle. The word is "humanitätsmelodie."
